Headed out in a few to see whats moving around. I will hunt until I get too cold. I sure miss my blind and heaters on days like today. I still have both, just never used either this year for some reason.

You definitely want the 209 primer version. I have a CVA Optima V2 scoped and a 2nd identical gun with fiber optic irons. I only shoot Blackhorn 209 powder anymore and the gun likes the Barnes TEZ 250 gr bullets. If you can find Federal 209a primers, get those. I am using 70gr of BH209 by weight or you can use 100gr by volume as a rough equivalent.

Things got real quiet before dark, but no dice. I will see them in smoke pole season!

Well that's a wrap for me and the 2022 Gun Season. I've endured more than what I wanted this morning and I have nothing to show for it but wet, cold clothes and a runny nose. Best of luck to yall and be careful out there Are you a muzzleloader hunter too?

No good news. Dog was on the deer right away. Blood ran out or we just couldn't see it. We trailed to deer with wet blood and came across a dry blood bed. I think it confused the dog. They ended tracking up a dead doe in the ditch a couple hundred yards away. Looked like it was hit in the rear end. I went back to the dry blood bed and looked above it where the last wet blood was. I was able to confirm the deer continued east along the top of the ditch past the dry blood bed on the bench below. The guy/property owner had to leave. But, he'll be back out there tomorrow morning to run his dogs. I'm very discouraged. I really don't know what happened here. I have shot my rifle at the distances and feel confident with it. Not sure where to go from here. Thanks for the support. Don't beat yourself up, brother. Deer are tough and who knows what may or may not have happened. Give the tracking your best effort and then get back on that horse and ride. You have no choice. I lost my first deer last year and it sickened me. I gave it a hell of an effort, far beyond what most would do and eventually I knew that it was what it was. Keep your head up!

Talk about a deer drought turning into a flood. Around 5:00, the 9-pointer jumped from his bed, ran a short distance, then started staring at the woods to our left. Shortly thereafter, a very vocal coyote started barking and howling. This continued for something like 10-15 minutes. I glanced over my right shoulder, and lo and behold, there was a very nice 8-pointer perfectly broadside. I was extremely tempted and even clicked the safety off, but in the end let it walk out of my life. I turned my focus to the tall grass in front of me after the coyote finally quieted down, and all kinds of deer started standing up 3-400 yards in front of me in this tall pasture grass. The section behind me has been round-baled, but for some reason, they didn't cut the huge portion on the other end. I had another buck about the size of the 2.5 year old 9-pointer stand up, a smaller buck other than the spike, and a handful of does. I can't believe they were all just lying there in front of me all afternoon. Lol! Fire when you see the whites of their eyes...

Just moved to a different area and found a huge, stinky fresh scrape. Whole area smells like a buck...

The chair that I sat down in crumpled under my weight and I flipped backwards into the tree that I was in front of. 🤣 I knew I shouldn't have gotten that 3rd plate of food yesterday.
