Just this week I actually looked at the dates for firearms this year and it hurts me pretty badly. The move to a week later means i am only going to get 4 days max hunting due to needing to be home for Thanksgiving and takes me out of the IL hunt I was drawn for I think I know what is probably behind the change and it annoys me a bit but complaining about that won't do me any good. I may try to borrow a buddys bow and give it a shot if I feel I can get proficient enough to be ethical. Feeling pretty bummed out since this piles on to me not being able to pull a CO deer tag for the first time ever.

That time range is right at the end of the prime ruts and the bucks are moving a lot to find that last hot doe. At the end in December is the beginning of older doe fawns. Those two weeks can be the slowest of seeing deer, but at any moment a good buck can show up anytime.

There isn't any change to firearms season. For my entire life it has been the first Saturday after Veterans Day, and every 4 years it falls where Thanksgiving weekend is the middle weekend.
With Veterans Day falling on a Saturday this year, gun season lands on the latest dates possible.

I am not going to be in Wi for their deer opener for that reason.

The later dates are tough IMO, gotta embrace archery to be guaranteed the best part of the rut.

If you have any concerns about practicing and proficiency, buy a crossbow.

I like the later opening date on firearms, makes for better rut archery hunting. However it does conflict with the IL firearms opener.

I also like the later date, it allows another week of archery and I killed my biggest 2 bucks on Nov 16th and Nov 17th. Seems like I don't see much rut action in my neck of the woods starting around the 11th every year. I love my bow hunting.

If I had any say in the date of the firearms opener, I would choose the second Saturday in November.
But I don't have any say, and I don't see the method used to set the date changing anytime soon.

I prefer the late start to firearms season, almost no hunting pressure around me in archery season😊

I like it the way it is. To move gun into December it can get real cold. Bad enough to have to hunt ML then let alone move everything back a couple of weeks. Yep just keep it as it is.
