Thru the grapevine today... Small ray of hope shined down. Our company landed a maintenance contract with a local company for us to maintain their fleet of steel haulers. Word has it the mechanics will get to remain at the shop. Our boss is being transferred to another location tho. Very odd. At least it will keep us going for the near future in familiar surroundings. Better than the alternatives for now. Not to be too pessimistic but the fact that your boss is transferring to another location sets off some alarm bells for me.

EVERYTHING they have done has set off alarm bells. The boss was very vocal and spoke his feelings of disgust on this takeover. He/we built our shops legacy over decades of hard work, blood, sweat, and tears, LITERALLY. The new place took it down in months. He is unconventional and old school, and it doesnt align with the new companies method of doing business, forget the customers that make this world go round. We are sure it didnt sit well and it rubbed them the wrong way. No turning back now.

Still nothing good or new to report on my current work place situation. Unanswered inquires, bait and switch actions, overall lack of communication with us, greed and total control, and the desire to split up a profitable group with over 80 years of strong working relationships have been too much of an eye opener to think our status is secure anymore. A run just shy of 22 years flushed down the drain in a matter of months by big corporate greed. So, I have come to realize there is little hope of a bright future for me, and time to look for greener pastures.
After voicing said thoughts aloud, and the word getting out, I am honestly stunned by what is happening. Job offers are coming in! So far, 2 of the very customers I served faithfully for years, that my current employer has cut ties with, have left messages to come and talk. I've gotten several tips about other local job positions opening up and even had business cards given to my boss and inserted in my tool box drawer about doing side work for small independent trucking owners. My boss told me my name and reputation was well known in the area, and apparently it is.
I have one particular job I am most interested in, and it will be at the forefront of my pursuit. It has the most potential for a future to finish out my career into retirement. It also has my best chance as both my boss and mentor have long term history with the manager, so I will have excellent references and job history documentation going into the interview.
I am very humbled by the attention this has brought forth. It has really cast some sunshine on my recent dark skies.

This kind of thing is always scary. The loss of familiar conditions and valued co-workers and friends is a very uncomfortable thing. I trust that your skills and experience will have you landing on your feet in the end! Best wishes for you and your co-workers.

Thanks men. I appreciate the thoughts.
Such scary times these have been lately. All the responsibilities in life came to the forefront. So many sleepless nights. Quality of life with attitude, mood, stress, and overall health are so easily effected (for me at least.) Time to get this turned around.

I encourage all younger coworkers to keep options open and to interview for new jobs regularly. I have benefited myself by doing this. Currently feel like my current employer will be my last. Have to see how many more years I need to work. Goal is to retire in 10 yrs or less but see what life brings.

Companies hiring outsideers instead of hiring from within for positions, moving laterally to a different company that pays more for the same job because your employeer wouldn't raise your wages, etc. etc. Companies expect loyalty but give none in return.

Things are slipping quickly at work. I am holding on for dear life, trying to buy as much time as I can before a move, trying to give them the benefit of the doubt. I hate to cut and run, but honestly cant take any more.
Around our area, several employees have been terminated recently for seemingly minuscule reasons. One left from our shop. One has been forced out to another location. These actions are being readily communicated by the company.
We recently have had an insurance debacle locally. They are taking our premiums, but denying coverage for our family members. It is being looked into by HR.
They are requiring company issued certifications in a few areas, yet none of us can pass the test. I am an ASE Recertified Master Truck tech, with 27yrs experience under my belt. So far, I have taken my companies online exam over 30 times now and cant pass it. Lol. I have the study guide and am doing the test open book style. I have written the answers down to assure of accuracy, but still fail. Something is quite fishy! Setting us up for failure!
I've talked to my wife about this. I asked what she thought. She thinks something stinks to high heaven as well. She asks me what I'm waiting for? Says it's ridiculous.
So... I have finally completed my updated resume. Looks pretty dang good to me! I have had two repeated inquiries from customers to come and work for them. I'm holding out for one particular place first. I have a retired friend, my mentor, working to get my app and resume in the right hands. Shouldnt be long for the call to interview now.
I've taken down my certifications, unbolted my tool boxes from their chassis frame I made, taken home unneeded extras, cleaned up my junk drawers and roll around cart. Let's roll.

Sounds stressful, for sure! Personally, I would find another job ASAP, forget about the 2 weeks notice just get out, even if you don't have a job yet. You are an outdoorsman with a young son and a very marketable skill set. Heart attacks happen every day and NO job or amount of money is worth that.

Seems like this company has been giving you the run around gor a while now. See what your old friend can do as far as your preferred job. If they don't call you by "x" date take the best offer you have and keep trying for the other job. I think these guys are no good for you.
