Good luck deadeer on whatever the future brings. Hopefully, it all works out one way or another. I think in the 38 years I've worked for 10 different companies. Started out in Fort Wayne, 3 years later the owner had a heart attack and decided to shutdown. Couple bad buyouts, two sell outs for shopping malls. A couple times I'm leaving and now one more year to retire. Stay positive!

We got the initial visit and introduction from the new company today. Will be 4-8 weeks before the actual takeover. They left a pretty good and favorable impression, including extra pay to start, extra sick time, extra vacation, extra company added 401k, etc. I was put a little more at ease when I was talked to personally by HR and the regional manager, and given high regards from my current company on several fronts. So, should be a little better sleeping conditions for us tonight.
I do appreciate everyone's input and positive comments. It has helped the nerves and jitters I've experienced. Thanks, Jay

That’s great to hear. Hopefully they stay true to all they say. That's a fact. A number of times I was told one thing and reality was something else. In today's world, it'd be a balancing act between "Can I get that in writing? If not, can I record your conversation?" If the answer is no to either of them, then I would be asking why not, are you afraid of not walking the talk?

All they have to say is “something changed” and that be it. If this was a union shop and they had a contract with the union or employees they be accountable for their actions in most cases.

Had my assessment interview today. Seemed to go well enough. I was told I have been spoken highly of. Was told there are no plans to close our facility at this time. Also said IF it came to that, my placement would be of the closer shop which is 7 miles away, instead of 45 miles. Also said 100% guarantee I will be enjoying my vacation this year as planned. If all that holds up, we will be happy campers.

Good diesel mechanics are in more demand than doctors. I know one who worked for a Cat dealer who got fed up with their crap and went out independently as a field mechanic. He can name the price for his service and it ain't cheap and he has to turn down work.

Would you believe...
This didnt take long...
New company is closing our shop doors to what we have done for 40+ years, which is serve the small business trucking community in sales and service. They are supposed to convert the shop into a body repair shop, mainly truck and trailer box repair, panel and roof work.
Since taking over, they sweetened the pot considerably at the start, undoubtedly to make it impossible for us to walk away. We had our reservations from the get go what their intentions inevitably were. The continued lack of communication with us, and now hindsight of decisions and slight of hand tactics, has left us with knowing our initial feelings were accurate.
A sad part is that they threw out all of our customers. Many we have had for 5-25yrs.
Supposedly, we will have a few options...
Staying on at the body shop, for reduced wages.
Wait to see if they sign an account for a local steel hauling company to service their fleet only for reduced wages.
Or relocate to other shops, individually. Breaking us up as a whole.
Not happy at all with how they have treated my entire previous company. This is affecting all 18 shops they acquired, some already, and some now. Big corporate business at it's best.
Merry stinking Christmas

This is happening right now to a lot of good employees across the USA. Certain kind of people put America last and so we are hurting in a big way. The good part a lot of people are tired of this economy and are waking up. The opening of the evil pandora box is flowing out faster and faster everyday. We are waking up to see the evil, so we know then what is truth and good.
Stay strong, level headed and make the best for you and your family. There is no loyalty to employees and employees to owners these days. Owners do what is best for them and screw the employees.

This really SUCKS! I'm sorry to hear this, however... From your posts, you are undoubtedly a good diesel mechanic and at very least above "average" welder/fabricator. That being said, everything happens for a reason! You will be working, very likely a higher paying job a few days after you start looking! I know it's rough, but it might be exactly what you need. P.S. 2 middle fingers as you walk out the door for the last time!
