Jay, I'm sorry. Maybe just maybe, you could find work for another shop at a competitive wage. Your knowledge and experience would be worth something in my opinion!

So sorry to hear that, but I truly believe you will have things turn out ok or even better for you and your family. You’re too hard of a worker and have a lot of knowledge in your industry to stay jobless for too long.

It's the impending doom with this economy people are seeing red and freaking out and making changes. I'm seeing it, luckily I'm a part of the changes in this cya world but still wary. They are trying to prop up the stock market to look good all a ploy imo of what is coming

Like I've said before, big business doesn't give a poop about the employees, just the bottom line. Whatever doesn't fit in their business plan, no matter how profitable, it's kicked to the curb. Business wants 2 weeks notice when you quit, but sure doesn't give you 2 weeks notice when they lay you off.
I worked for 11 years at a company, couldn't get pay raises to keep up with the floor workers (I was a foreman) and when I turned in my resignation I was told there's the door, good luck finding a job at this time of the year (between Thanksgiving and Christmas) The owner had a surprised look when I said I already accepted a position at a 40% increase in pay and I can start as soon as I am done here. Thank you very much.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the well wishes. We will make it work eventually. Yes, very emotional time for us. Over 80 years between us, and over 100 years in this building serving the community proudly.
Had a meeting with HR today and it was a mess. They asked if any questions, and when we asked, their answers were, as always have been so far, "we dont know and will find out for you."
Found out some of the terms when they bought us. We were told when the deal was made everyone would keep their job. New company sold it to us everyone will have a JOB OPPORTUNITY, nobody said keep YOUR job. Even better, found out the contract was only valid thru 2023. Well there you go. The truths are coming out. Just freaking WOW.

Keep in mind you have a huge company about to open near you.
I am sure they will have openings for a man with your skills.

Thru the grapevine today...
Small ray of hope shined down. Our company landed a maintenance contract with a local company for us to maintain their fleet of steel haulers. Word has it the mechanics will get to remain at the shop. Our boss is being transferred to another location tho. Very odd. At least it will keep us going for the near future in familiar surroundings. Better than the alternatives for now.

That's a glimer of hope Jay! I hope it works out for you. It made for a "little" better feeling going into the long weekend at least. It wasnt passed on to us officially yet, so still a ways from feeling secure. But, I'll take it over what we have been getting. Still way too many sleepless hours at night.

In your spare time you might want to explore other options near you.

I'm telling you, everything happens for a reason, this WILL work out and I am betting you will be better off next Christmas. Easy for me to say, but I firmly believe this.
