Curious if anyone heard an estimate how many hunted or deer killed. Not how many you saw ( the point of a reduction is to shoot deer) not watch them. I know sometimes people will here a estimate. As of 1:30 when I left she said maybe 30 for the 2 days That sounds about right. 2 years ago it was 37 for the early.

I'd like to know anyone's reasoning why they continue to have hunts yearly now at Parks. They need to skip a year or two or rotate, however sounds good. Not just for the hunting aspect, but we can hardly ever see a deer anymore when we visit.

I've never seen numbers posted, but that seems very low. I would be there were a lot of selective hunters instead of the brown it's down style they are after. We will see come after Thanksgiving. The surrounding area of the park has been a bit quiet with deer unless you're near ag land, think this cold snuck up on em. Good luck out there, made it home from work to walk out to the stand for a 2.5 hour sit. It's that time of the year where hours in can equal success. Good luck rest of the season boys. We will let you know how the late hunt goes.

They are in a two year rotation now I believe, except for the bow only parks. Most the parks for this year won’t be open again for two years. I’m with you though, while in brown county with the family we very rarely see a deer now while driving or hiking.

We will let you know how the late hunt goes. I let 8 doe walk yesterday and 2 2.5 to 3.5 year old bucks walk today. Doubt it is going to do any harm to the park. Figure it make the surrounding landowners happy too. I was and will be selective on these hunts. I got drawn for the atterbury military hunt too. Guarantee I'm not shooting the first 2 deer there either. Most guys I talked to the last 2 days were letting stuff walk. What's weird is all said the same. Mature does were hard to find. A lot of yearlings. Idk if that means the does are locked down and chased the fawns or something else.

Probably been 5yrs straight if not more? Just need a few years to balance again. Maybe have less guys hunt, or take only 2 deer? Idk

Guess I just pay attention to the parks I’ve hunted. Turkey run, spring mill, brown county, and I believe mccormicks creek have been on two year rotations for a while. I just know because every other year I have to travel for a park instead of having my front door park available. The extra deer possibilities sure are nice, but man after this early hunt I don’t know that it’s worth it. I mean I killed three bucks one year thanks to parks and military hunts, which is nice and fills the freezer, which is why I’ve continued doing them.

Not sure I be posting what I passed at a park hunt…. Just saying! A lot of eyes read here…. If they figure it out they can ban me. Pretty sure they know most do. I'm not killing something just to say I killed something. If that's what they want, ban away. The park people know the numbers are where they need to be. It's just a sustaining mode now. No growth

Park hunts have changed. If they really want "reduction" they need to change a few things. They no longer have utv's running the service trails hauling out deer. At Shades, the roads have TONS of blow downs across them making it difficult with a cart. I didn't get the chance to shoot anything, but from my tree stand to my truck was .96 miles (per Onx). The trailhead was 300-400 yards from my stand. If I had limited out, I would have been 3-6 hours hauling out my deer. I'm going to continue applying because I always enjoy myself and it's a change of scenery.

Then why sign up for a reduction hunt if you aren't going to shoot? Many people sign up and don't get drawn that I'm sure would love a chance at some meat.

Many people sign up and don't get drawn that I'm sure would love a chance at some meat. To be honest, an extra buck. Because it's my tag to do with as I wish. Again every guy I talked to passed deer on both days of the hunt. Trust me, the vast majority does in my experience with every park hunt I've been on. Why kill a deer just to kill it and give it away or kill a deer for 30 pounds of meat if I'm lucky. I'm not kill happy. Don't need to build my ego. Why do people go to park hunts, kill a deer, and donate it. Same scenario. You're killing a deer just to kill it. If rather let a deer live than just kill it to build my ego and say I killer x amount of deer in a year.

Suggestions. Show me where it's a "rule" you have to shoot the first three deer. I'll assume you shoot the absolute first doe you see with any bonus county doe tags??? Amazing front office didn't have an issue with it when I told them.
