I'm going to run over to IL for one last bow hunt before season winds up. Still have an either sex tag.

Them deer are getting deRn near impossible to kill with crossbow now. I've had deer within 40 yards of me 8 out of 12 of the last hunts. Have only got off a shot twice. Once I scored and once I missed. The other 6 times the deer have either seen or smelled me when they got in close. Just not the same ol city deer no more. Any one of the chances would have connected if I was packing heat...

Heading to the red zone this morning. Finally some almost Jan weather. Had the neighbor come rescue her dog out from under me over there last night. This was one of the neighbors that I have not had contact with.

Sat morning we had a group of 6 yearling bucks come through. They were as jumpy as ever. My bud still has a red zone buck tag but could not get off a shot.
Sun morning all we saw was a group of turkeys move through. Couple of them were some real nice toms. Light 💡 just went off again.

Was back in the red zone yesterday evening. Had a doe standing there next door watching us walk out. Told my bud just to ignore her and climb up. Soon as we started climbing up off she went and took the other 2 we didn't see with her. About 10 mins before dark I heard steps coming towards us. Didn't take long and I heard one blowing at us. Busted again. Wind was blowing right to her and she sure didn't like it. Again guns would have been blazing.

For some reason she didn't have a tail and looked like a pronghorn with her white butt. After that she'd lead all the deer on a wide berth around the stand whenever I was in it. It took me until muzzleloader season to get her and after that the deer started walking closer to the stand. If at all possible put up a different stand or move that one.

Finished out the season strong. Ran over to southern IL for a couple days of bow hunting and killed a big fat doe the last hour, last day of IL archery season.

Moved onto a different type of hunting. Hunting down big veneer black walnuts. Found some booners.... $$$$ What's the price of logs now? Walnut and white oak are strong. Other spieces not so much. I concentrate on mostly walnut and smaller jobs the bigger companies don't want to fool with. This particular job is approx. 35 walnut trees and should generate $12 to $15K. Has 4-5 high grade veneer logs and several other other lower grade veneer. Logging biz is all about contacts and buyers, lotta shady guys out there. Lol. That last logs 1s a 12'6" by 18" log with 150 ish board ft. In it. Hoping to get $1200-$1500 out of it.

Going through old trail camera pictures and came across this one in 2021. This is the buck I killed this past season. Now I can say “ I had a history with him”.! 😉
