Am I reading something wrong here from what I see it went from 65 to 91 and I’m good to go Won’t the deer bundle be good for every weapon I keep reading this post and keep seeing crossbows tag bow tags ML tags From what I've read it sounds like most didn't have a problem with the resident increase. People had a problem with the non resident increase. I think it just went up to what surrounding states rates are now. They have an option, either pay the increase or hunt somewhere else. I still think the state could make money on having a lottery for lifetime liscence every year.

Here is another minor nit-picky gripe about the IN deer licenses. Why in the heck don't they include a deer transport tag rather than the dumb, homemade, hand written deals?
When you print your license it only takes up part of the sheet of paper, plenty of room for some transport tags on the same sheet.

The "make your own tag" started back in the late 80s with Lifetime License holders. Everyone was buying tags over the counter except us LTL holders. The DNR used to send to us LTL all the tags we would possibly need. I'm sure that got old and expensive to do that. Then they told us to just write our own tags. That ended up expanded to all deer and turkey hunters.

Print it on "Bumper Sticker paper" and you have a self sealing, no string or wire needed, transportation tag.

I scribbled on any loose paper left in my truck and hope to god I have something to hold it on....that is until this year when I just made up a ziplock bag for harvests; wet wipes, knife, transporation tag/paper, pen/pencil and two massive clips to clip the thing to an ear or wherever else. Lives under truck seat now.

I was surprised when I received the stuff for the spring mill park hunt this year they provided three transportation tags with the info. Don’t think I’ve had that with any of the other parks I’ve hunted.

And they offered more when you checked in if you didn’t bring the first ones they provided.

Versailles had a stack printed out at check-in also.

I actually received a mailed packet at home that included everything in the link you click when you’re successful along with the temporary transportation tags.

Now this may be out if ignorance, but if you do the online check-in, do you still have to use the transportation tag? I checked my deer in online this year before I even took my first pictures. Not sure if a tag is required after that or not.

Not sure if a tag is required after that or not. Looks like you need a temporary tag until the actual processing begins: Tagging Requirements Immediately upon killing a deer, the hunter must complete a temporary tag on paper that states the hunter’s name, address, sex of the deer, license number (if applicable) of the individual who took the deer, and the day and month of the kill. A hunter is not required to place the tag on the deer while dragging it out of the field as long as the hunter has filled out and is carrying the required information. A hunter must maintain immediate custody of and visual contact with the deer carcass unless the completed temporary transportation tag is attached. The tag must be attached to the deer before the hunter leaves the deer. Reporting Requirements Hunters are required to register their harvested deer within 48 hours of the kill. This can be done one of three ways: Online through the DNR’s CheckIN Game system (CheckINGame.dnr.IN.gov) Call 800-419-1326 (a $3 fee applies) Find a check station or license retailer who will enter the information for you through CheckIN Game Once the deer is registered with the CheckIN Game system, a confirmation number will be generated. The number must be recorded on a temporary transportation tag and kept with the deer until processing begins. The deer head must remain attached to the carcass until the deer is registered with CheckIN Game and a confirmation number is issued.

I guess the only question I would have left to ask, is when does processing begin? Some might say that it begins when you field dress then.

I figured that would be the next question. That one would probably have to go in the ask a CO section.

Pretty sure somewhere I saw it's intended to be mean when skinning begins. Will be watching for the official answer.

Field dressing is not processing.IMO
I say leave Tag on deer until you start parting it up!
CO aren’t out to get folks that are trying to do the right things!

My personal opinion (for what it’s worth).
Gutting and skinning is preparation for processing. Actual process is is when you start cutting up and butchering the meat.
We have talked in the past about quartering a deer to pack out. The deer needs to be checked in before that happens.
IMO - The COs will not ticket you for bringing out a whole unregistered deer (minus guts) but will if you bring out an unregistered quartered deer.
