Got to hunt with one of my grand daughters yesterday. 8 year old eyes can spot squirrels like a hawk. Had a great time showing how to hunt. She had to gather some hickory nuts to take back to show her younger brother and sister.

Well I was in a great squirrel woods today. At least it would have been great if there were any squirrels in it. Plenty of mast and many limits of squirrels taken there in past years. However a search of the woods didn't reveal any cuttings. Two pineys and one fox squirrel were seen. Can't figure what happened to the population.

Almost to the woods and get a text. Bit of an emergency at my daughters with limbs down on her roof. With her hubby down at Officers school in Texas, looks like Pops is heading back home to get the chainsaw!

With her hubby down at Officers school in Texas, looks like Pops is heading back home to get the chainsaw! I hope the limbs didn't do any damage. I had planned on going out this a.m. Ragweed allergies kicked in with a vengeance yesterday, I'd chase every squirrel out of the woods today 'cause I haven't found an OTC med that works yet this year.

Daughter and I each got a grey. Seen 1 big fox squirrel, had 4 grays in a hickory, and then had 2 more on the ground. Most action was 7pm until almost 8.

Sheesh! What a sucky night in the squirrel woods. I think one of you from an opposing team sent them the memo that I was coming out! Walked and stalked and then just sat out the last 45 minutes in a favorite stand! Did not hear any cutting and did not see one blasted squirrel! At least the night was not a total bust. I saw five deer and a hen turkey with some poults.

Found this presumably cheap set of 10x25 Tasco binos back in the woods the other day. Figured they wouldn't be any good because of water leakage. Put them on the dash of the truck for a couple days and brought them in to clean up and check out. Guess they didn't leak because they are clear as a bell. Only damage seems to be that some critter chewed off half of one of the eye cups. I usually cut those off anyway since I wear glasses a lot. Pretty good find considering I am red/green colorblind!

Sitting in the buggy. Listening to the thunder. Watching the rain and lightning. Finish my coffee and then I’ll head out once the cloudburst moves east!

Took the first stroll thru the skurry woods today. Didnt see any except for the dead one at the end of esshups barrel. Lol.
I am still battling thru a respiratory infection or something similar, and so I pooped out quicker than I should have.

I’ve been sitting, and stalking and waiting, looking and listening. Absolutely zippo! A ton of songbirds out. Much windier than I expected.

The weatherperson(s) got it wrong this morning. 1-2 mph winds turned into 10+ relatively quickly. I was lucky to get one today, and if it hadn't barked at me I probably would have missed seeing it. Lots of activity as cut acorns on the ground, heard a number of deer blowing so I have high hopes for deer season. I'll have to go out when the wind isn't blowing, it'll be a lot easier to spot them. I heard another one cutting, but couldn't locate it. Nice and cool this morning, upper 50's to start and it was in the mid 60's when we quit. VERY dry in the woods.

Ok omega! I need some of your squirrel huntin' magic my way! At least get a bark or 2 in the woods! That has to be one of the longest hunts I've ever done to end up with nary a sound or sight of a tail! Big ole goose egg for Chief Kink-in-da-neck (yeah, that'd me after hours of rubbernecking the treetops)! But, I did go 5 for 5 on hickory nuts and acorns! Y'all know that itchy trigger finger feeling ya get after sitting so long...
