My luck so far this morning. Got a shot at one and it is stuck 25' up in a little maple. If you only had a shotgun... lol.

Well woke up late this morning and it had gotten too hot already so not much action. Did have my trusty squirrel cat accompany me today lol. He follows me on a lot of my trips behind the house

Years ago I had a huge black Tom cat. One morning I walked about a half mile to my deer stand. Got up about 15’ all settled in and heard something scratching . Next thing I know here is Satan sitting in my lap. I didn’t have a clue he had followed me.

I've often thought it would be fun to take my cat along on a trip to the woods. He was a feral kitten, and it has taken years to make him comfortable with being in the chair with me, and just recently started eating some of his dry treats from my hand. Still making progress, but still wonder if he'd come back with me or run off at the first disturbance.
We did have a couple of fox squirrels in our yard two years ago, unusual visitors for us, and I was going over to the neighbors house and stopped to watch the squirrels while I was still in the middle of our lawn. Noticed Fraidy coming up beside me and stopping about four feet off to my right to watch them also. They were exploring and investigating a trailer that a tree trimmer had left in the yard and they had also noticed Fraidy and I, and were taunting us. I took a couple of slow steps towards them and stopped, and Fraidy kept pace, and stopped when I did. Did it a couple times, and it was obvious he was coming with me to meet the strangers, which kinda surprised me.
I'd given him the name Fraidy because he was so cautious when we were trying to get him to trust us when we first took him in. Felt pretty good to have him "going into battle" at my side. Of course that little episode never got serious, as the curious squirrels had seen enough of us before we got close enough for any fur to fly and scurried off to a tree across the road. My buddy might have proven to be lacking in battle, but at least he was making a good start of it.
I hadn't heard much of any cats making any sort of defensive effort to protect their people, but later I saw one on TV doing so, and checked U-tube and there were quite a few examples, some pretty exciting. No plans to test him further as a protector, I'm satisfied that he at least seemed to be willing.
He has gradually gotten used to us and is trusting enough to sleep in the middle of the room even when the wife and I totter past him and have to step over him, but has never accepted our opinions about thunder. The first faraway rumble sends him into the dining room where his sanctuary is. He seems pretty sure that thunder can't reach him under there.
He's marked very much like your Kasey, Woody, but is about five years younger and a bit less of a lapful. But he still won't sit in our laps. Maybe by the time he's your kitty's age, we'll finally have a lap-warmer in the winters.

Out to change camera card again. Toting the CZ 457 just in case the bushys are moving!

One down. Probably the closest I have ever shot a squirrel, like something under 10 feet away on the ground as I was sitting on the ground. Now, have to try another location for a bit.

Got out before sunrise with the plan to put up last of cushions and lifelines on stands. Dropped 2 grays before starting on stands.
Might get out on them again in a bit!

Back out to check on cards and stands so I’ll sit a spell on squirrels if they seem to be moving.

Kablewey!!! 3rd gray down! I do believe this one is my farthest shot ever with a rifle. Aiming across a ravine, after watching this dude scamper around for at least 15 minutes, he finally stopped for a few seconds on a log. With the scope dialed up 10X, I slowly squeezed one off and the crazy thing just fell, stone cold dead. Head/neck shot! I had ranged his area at 60-80 yards. Rangefinder on the dead critter showed 72 yards! That’s probably a cakewalk for you Omega! For me...that’s unreal!
