Well, I still have a couple of days to try and kill one so I wont have to carry a rifle this Saturday .... but just in case I made some preparations today. Ive got my Remington M7 243 that I put together for my son last year all ready for him and Ive got my same old 358BFG wildcat that Ive been using for the past 10 years or so. But dad ... I gutted the encore 358 he used to use and hadnt gotten anything else together for him until today. I wanted a gun that shot well and was cheap enough that I didnt care when dad dropped it in the mud or left it in the Ranger all night in the rain. I ended up getting him a Savage Axis in 308 for $225 after the rebate. Put a Leupold I had on top and watched a YouTube video on a DIY trigger job and I am now the proud owner of a very cheap but hopefully reasonably accurate 308. Not enough time to work up a handload for it so I just picked up a couple boxes of Hornady American Whitetail and as long as it shoots reasonably well (2.5" or better at 100) it is what dad will be using Saturday morning. Gun turned out to be as picky as it is ugly. Hornady, Federal, Winchester and finally Remington. It put 3 Remington's in 1.25" at 100 yards ...the rest it wouldn't shoot worth a dang.

That should get the job done. When you get more time give the Hornady Precision Hunter rounds a try. I found them to be considerably more consistent than the American Whitatails. Every rifle is different though. Also, consistentancy comes with a price. They are roughly $2 per round in the larger calibers.

The T/C G2 Contender with the 44 mag barrel on it is what I'll be using this year. It's been years since I used the 35 Rem pistol barrel or the 45 cal muzzle loading barrel so I may switch it up during the season, you never know with me.

Depends where I hunt. If behind the house may be xbow or 44. If I go to anywhere else it will be with a 243.

I’d really like to kill a doe with my .40 S&W. That’s a goal I set for myself this season.

Since I'm after a good buck now I figure I better step up to the plate this year Accordingly I'll be taking the 375H&H! (actually I'm using it because I've never had it out hunting) I have concerns that you're not using enough gun. You should wait for the "Texas heart shot" with that caliber...

Will hunt with "the terminator" tomorrow morning. A Savage 116 custom barreled with a .358 BFG wssm McGowan barrel. The load is a 200 grain Barnes TTSX traveling at 2640 f/s. Shoots 1 inch at 200 yards. Has terminated a bunch of deer out to 300 yards. Am pretty confident for tomorrow's hunt.

Nah; I’m a little light for that, now if I was using my 416Rigby that would change things!!!
