Decisions, decisions. Private land: Savage Model 14 American Classic .243, Leupold scope or Weatherby Mark V Deluxe, Vortex scope (the most beautiful rifle I own) .270 Weatherby magnum, or Custom .260 Rem, Swarovski scope (the most expensive rifle I own LOL!). Public land: Just bought a .450 Bushmaster upper, 20 inch barrel, for my LMT lower. Put a Leupold VX Freedom scope on it calibrated for the caliber 3-9x40. Bore sighted but not shot yet. Clock is ticking. Time for some shooting bench work

Muzzy if my other son goes. If not then the cva .44 oldest son said he wanted more power and wants to keep shooting the other muzzy. He got one during youth with the muzzy and loves it.

Well, I still have a couple of days to try and kill one so I wont have to carry a rifle this Saturday .... but just in case I made some preparations today. Ive got my Remington M7 243 that I put together for my son last year all ready for him and Ive got my same old 358BFG wildcat that Ive been using for the past 10 years or so. But dad ... I gutted the encore 358 he used to use and hadnt gotten anything else together for him until today. I wanted a gun that shot well and was cheap enough that I didnt care when dad dropped it in the mud or left it in the Ranger all night in the rain. I ended up getting him a Savage Axis in 308 for $225 after the rebate. Put a Leupold I had on top and watched a YouTube video on a DIY trigger job and I am now the proud owner of a very cheap but hopefully reasonably accurate 308.
Not enough time to work up a handload for it so I just picked up a couple boxes of Hornady American Whitetail and as long as it shoots reasonably well (2.5" or better at 100) it is what dad will be using Saturday morning.

Since I'm after a good buck now I figure I better step up to the plate this year Accordingly I'll be taking the 375H&H! (actually I'm using it because I've never had it out hunting) With the right bullet I guess that would kill a deer. Had one for years. Worked like a charm. No such thing as too dead. I got rid of mine though because it got meat on both ends. Ha

Even though this is kind of a sacrificial rifle, be sure to give it a good coat of oil. Those Axis rust easy! But they are shooters.
