I've seen this chatter going around Facebook and it's quite confusing because it clearly states in the hunting guide that they are legal, but some are claiming that the new rifle laws essentially overwrote the old laws. I didn't think the new laws were replacing the old laws, but were "in addition to". The "new" law has the exact same verbiage as last year, they just struck out the "cartridges" wording and replaced it with the .243 and up wording. But, we never heard any issues last year. Yes, it's a mess.

Leave it to politicians to screw up hunting regulations.
The bill passed into law this year is supposed to be in addition to the previous regulation.
The original so call PCR has not changed,..

The DNR doesn't have any other publication that summarizes the law.

So what is being suggested is that the "new" rifles laws REPEALED Indiana Administrative Code 312 IAC 9-3-3 where it clearly lays out what equipment is legal?

This is the information that seems to be causing the confusion. www.in.gov/dnr/fishwild/7389.htm Click on the "Equipment" link Guess they didn't think about changing all the information that contradicts this statement on the rest of the website.

House Enrolled Act 1415 that was passed earlier this year by the Indiana General Assembly (state legislators) and signed by the Governor allows some additional rifle cartridges to be used on private land during the deer firearms season, but removed the ability for any rifle to be used on public land for deer hunting.
The last sentence pretty much muddies the water real good! What a mess for the public land hunters... SMH

Well..I will not be buying a new gun for my daughter to use because of someone's inability to proofread the new legislation before making it law.

Please explain me, is my .44mag carbine still good on public land or not? And how about my inline muzzleloader for a firearm season?
