The clarity or enforcement of the law isn't the issue. It's having a prosecutor that will actually file the charges. Around here it is almost becoming the Old West with laws not being enforced because of lack of action by prosecutors. To be honest, things are getting so bad with not prosecuting trespassers, game violators, and property destroyers that they are just getting bolder and I fear it's going to end up getting someone killed. 100% agree. It is one of the first things I ask or research about prosecutors heading into the position possibly.

tynimiller The problem is, how many people do you think put out mineral sites on their property, hang a camera over it, shut it down by Sept 15th and then go to the trouble of removing the contaminated soil? I would imagine many stop putting out minerals or other baits by that time, but we all know that the deer keep checking those sites during the hunting seasons. Oh for sure. Very very few. When we ran sites, and I'd tell buddies late august time to go dig em up, cover and fence them off...the crazy looks I'd get told me everything I needed to know about this. I do like the idea of using a kiddie pool for delivery of mineral, which I am a believer in, but just stopped due to the removal process flat being ridiculous. The most ridiculous thing is that every store that sells hunting supplies has shelves slam full of bait products that they know are illegal for use during the hunting season in this state. It reminds me of the fireworks law that stated while stores in Indiana can sell fireworks, those who purchase them must agree to take them out of state to shoot them. Ridiculous....

Yup....in my younger years...I may or may not have posted a sign at Walmart printed out and laminated that said "Illegal in Indiana for Hunting" and sticked them with magnets to the racks.......LOL!
Some guy who worked the counter was leaving being done with his shift, and just laughed and said, "Love it...and I'm leaving so they're gonna stay for a day atleast" LOL!

I'd rather my mother catch me coming out of Night Moves than be caught with that stuff in my cart near hunting season.

Would she have ever been investigated if her other deer were little basket racks or does?

The law is clear now........ at least every CO I seen or asked says so! Maybe explain the part your saying needs clarity! We've gone over and over and over this ..... example after example. Theoretical after theoretical. That alone is enough that anyone with even a shred of common sense should see there is room for improvement. Improvement in the quality of deer hunters.

? Just a few weeks ago I thought all this was crystal clear? Proposed law: "Just don't feed wild animals." Were you feeding wild animals? but I don't understand a 5 word sentence. I only attended public school to the 23rd grade. Guilty.

It doesn't matter if they are found guilty or not. Nobody will care in a couple of weeks. People will still watch he hunts and if she has sponsors they will not go anywhere. Look at big Bill? You don't see anyone talking about that anymore.
I do like how she says they were filming "just for fun". Isn't that what most of these people do until they get footage worthy of being sold?

No doubt the penalty needs to be harsher AND increase with each conviction. But you need to catch one to convict one and you need to convict one to sentence one. There is a logical progression there and it shouldn't TAKE 3 years of surveillance to convict a low life lying cheater of poaching and baiting.

I'll go out on a limb here and say 99.9% of people that put out mineral blocks and bait don't remove it prior to hunting it. Not saying that they add to it but as far as removing every piece of corn or 100% of leached minerals into the soil, nah don't see it. Intentional baiting, no. Laziness, yeah. Let's be honest here. You put a block out and it rains onto that block, how deep do you think those minerals get. As far as that rainwater seeps into the ground. I'd guess the majority that "try" to follow the law just remove the block.
As far as this case, my guess is a bit of mineral in the ground or a piece of corn here or there is the top of the iceberg. Three years for a tad bit of soiled dirt, don't think so.

I guess no one read my last reply to this post, because everyone keeps beating this issue to death. The bottom line is that scientific studies have shown baiting for deer does NOT improve hunter success. So, why is this thing even an issue? Bucks will come to the bait, but almost always at night. I guess bait might work in the daytime for a green young of the year doe, but not a nice buck.

The bottom line is she is a poacher, according to the story.

I can see it being effective then.

It is even less effective then. I've had cameras set up on a corn pile in North Carolina. Bucks will come to it at night, but during the rut they never come at all. They have something else on their minds, which is why bucks usually lose a significant amount of weight during the rut.

Also, I've hunted deer long enough to realize anyone that makes a definitive 100% claim to anything is lying...unless it is to say "nothing is ever 100%".
