I know this has been discussed before but I just got word that I need steel toes for a job coming up next week in New York. Looking for boots. Over the ankle. Steel or composite toe. Something I can get here in Indy. Something to pack fairly easy in luggage. Trying to stay around $100 but price not the big issue. Like them to be waterproof. Comfort is abit issue too. Thoughts?

I have had several pair of Hytest that have been comfortable and don't weight a ton. I have one pair right now that I wear a lot of times steel toe is not required. They don't even feel like "work boots" and they are waterproof.

I have had good luck with Timberland and Rocky boots, they are both available in waterproof. REMEMBER THIS! You can't put a price on comfort when you are on your feet 12+ hours a day.

I have wide feet. Redwings used to be my favorite until I got a pair of hytest. They can be expensive but worth it imo

Hytest is good.
DON'T get Wolverine with Durashock soles. They fall to piece in a couple years if you wear them or not. The sole just dries up and falls apart.

My Dad called Wolverine headquarters and told him about his soles falling apart on boots he hardly wore. They told him they were designed to do that for landfill purposes. Basically they are biodegradable boots. They ended up sending him a new pair of boots free of charge. I got a pair of steel toe Keen boots and I really like them. Plenty wide enough and comfortable. I believe they are water proof also. I haven't had to test them out since I work above ground now.

Can't go wrong with Red Wings. They truly are like walking on mattresses.

www.carolinashoe.com/CA8528I just got these a few months ago haven't worn them enough to tell you anything about durability but they have all the safety features I like in a boot and can be found for much less than the msrp listed. I've had a few pair of red wing in as many different styles and only reason for that was they kept warrantying them out for me sorry but if I can't wear a pair of boots out before your craftsmanship fails then I don't need your boot. For the price rocky makes a decent boot had good luck with carhartt boots. And if you are ok with slip on then ariat makes a comfortable composite toe boot. In the 120$ range. Asking which boot is almost asking which haircut you should have.

I got a pair of steel toe metatarsal ,by Worx boots from big R and they have lasted longer than expected. Seem to be just as good as Red Wings but cheaper.

Slip on or lace up? Ohhh and how high over the ankle? Men's King Toe, lace up 6" Boot Red Wing socks were amazing a few years back. A little pricy but super comfortable and durable. The last ones I bought seemed to rip apart before they were a year old...

Wow, you guys must tip toe thru the tulips to get that kind of life out of boots and socks. Lol. I work in an otr truck/trailer shop, and pound the concrete 8hrs a night. I have been thru most brands over the years, but none last me over a year. The insoles crush and wear down, and that means aching feet, legs, and back quickly. I am currently using Dickies brand, due to being the most comfortable, but still only getting 7-8mos tops. Being tall and thick , 6'3" 300+ lbs, surely doesnt help my cause tho.

Stocking up on toys and the needs of retirement ya know, "I'll NEVER have to buy this again as long as I live..." Don't count on it if it say Wolverine on it. They'll fall apart in the shoe box before you ever wear the second pair. That's a good line though, they must have made up that BS after they sent me a different pair. WITH NO DURASHOCK SOLES. I researched it and those shoes are falling apart all over the country and they weren't telling any one that a year ago. This is the first time I've ever heard it. It sure wasn't part of their sales pitch BEFORE you buy them.

Jack they may have changed the material on the Wolverine Dura Shock's. They are by far the most comfortable boot that I have put on my foot, and fit like they were already broke in. I have several pair at work and home, when we get new ones at work we get to bring the older pair home with us. They are my everyday work boot (12 hrs) a day and then when I work in them at home.

At work I've seen boots fail in a matter of days. 2 months is probably about the average lifespan of a pair for some job classifications.

All true. If someone else buys them, I wouldn't worry about it. If I buy them, they will NEVER be ANYTHING with the word Durashock in any way connected to it, or Wolverine.
