I'm back in the same woodlot that I was in this morning, but brought my climber and moved over to where the buck came through. Hopefully he'll reverse his travel and I'll be able to measure him up tonight. He paused under a huge white oak this morning that has a few acorns under it, and I'm now 20 yards from it.
The only decent tree is pretty bare, but I am set up on the opposite side of it from where I think he'll come (if he shows up.)

Leaves are a lot thinner this year than most openers. I'd like to see some moisture, but it is nice to be able to see a little ways into the woods. The woods in Bloomington had a decent leaf litter down but small maples and paw paws made it hard to see very far. Scouted some HNF land after lunch and they had not lost many leaves except walnut and sumac

Got settled in a half hour ago. Was excited to see what trail Cam would reveal before climbing up. Oops. I must have forgotten to turn it on before I left on the last check. It's on now. Feels like a good evening to be hunting. Good luck guys.

Just had 8 big, fat turkeys pass me single file at 20 yards. As luck would have it, they were all hens and I'm really only interested in a tom.

Five more passed by a little farther behind some leaves, and at least one had a long beard. Then I saw two more coming right towards me through the woods, but they turned and ran as soon as I lifted a finger -- and they were 50+ yards in cover. Eagle eyes! Lol! I guess I should stick with deer today.

I just had a button buck run 500 yards across an open field, from the corn, to my persimmon tree.

Back in the natural ground blind we hunted last Sunday. Becca is the shooter but I have my bow just in case. Wind is great, enjoying the breeze..

Sat from 4 till dark tonight. Saw fifteen turkeys and one coyote. Did not see any deer. Hunted the edge of a been field that's still nice and green. Actually the first coyote I've seen while hunting. Was nice to be back out.

Ended up seeing 4 this eve total. 1 decent buck I never got a good look at so I let walk, and the others were does a couple hundred yards out. I'll take that for the opener!

Busted by a doe while getting settled in 40 minutes ago. She blew, went west, blew, went south, blew went east. About a 15 minute ordeal. I'll deflate her lungs for her if she returns.
