Our final 30 minutes Jim! Haven't seen a thing yet Brandon, I stayed until the bitter end. LOL! I'll take that recipe please for tag soup. Still was a good season. Helped my grandson get his first deer. Means more than me getting one. Wanda has some venison round steak chili going in the crock pot. Wish you and Daphne were closer to us. We would have you over for dinner! Thanks Jim! We'd love to have dinner with you two again sometime. Maybe we can meet half way. I had a lot of fun this year. I had a blast chasing the Big 9 and checking out some up and comers. I learned a lot this year. I definitely have some stands to move. October is only 10 months away!

Last hunt this morning for me and the kid the I have been taking out. And it was a great one. At about 8:30 we had a group of does slowly working their way to us. I believe it was the same group of does that winded us last weekend. The wind was on our side this morning but the lead doe hung up about 40 yards and started the stare down process. They knew something wasn't right and something weird was in the spot where the bad smell came from last week. They were in pretty thick cover and never presented a great shot. Slowly they backed off out of range. Jake told me that he may have had a small window for that lead doe but he didn't feel as though it was a sure thing, so he left the safety on. I'm very happy with his discipline in this instance. I asked him after the hunt how he felt when those does came in - "was your heart coming out of your chest, mine was". "Not really" he said, "but I was grinning from ear to ear with excitement". No deer shot, but a great way to wrap up the season.
