There is no such thing as a routine check of the inside of a house whether it's occupied or not. Maybe not in your world, seen it a lot.

I don't doubt you "seen it a lot" but routine checks of the inside of someone's house are not legal no matter how good your intentions are. The list of reasons you can enter a house without a warrant or consent is very short.

I agree completely with probable cause, but when a door is ajar or a window open or suspicious activity around a vacant dwelling, a security check can be made of that building. Would I go inside someone's locked or closed up vacant house, no way, unless circumstances warranted. And like you said it's a narrow list. I was a K-9 officer and went in a lot of building's, not many homes but businesses and a home when a suspect with a warrant was known to be there. I choose my words poorly in my previous post, imagine someone on this forum who says he's was wrong.

Definition of "abandon" = if I want to go in there or not.

It's been over a week since this post started I am sure by now inquiring minds would have an answer.

I can't imagine it would take more than a couple hours to get this sorted out.

He hasn't been online since the 13th. Must be a long line down at the police department.

The reason I asked about town and timeframe specifics is we had a woman reported missing in the county on June 24th with unknown circumstances.
They found her body this past Friday.

Sorry I haven't been back for a while. 1. The door was unlocked and shut. 2. the front camera did show a Sheriff's car in the driveway. 3. Sheriff says they have no record of a call there. I figured he most likely wasn't up to any mischief so I kind of left it at that. 4. I have a renter, and they promise to be a good one!

File a police report .... If whichever LEO it was had a warrant or probable cause it'll be fine. If not, press charges just like any other person would face. What going to be the charge? Plesase tell! Tresspassing
