Hit Monroe last nigjt. Caught almost anything that swims...7 wipers and a keeper walleye qere the high points Out of curiosity what is a wiper? Whitexstriped bass. They will wipe out your tackle box too! Mean fish. Caught 7 in about 20 minutes as they were being mean to school of shad. We taught them a lesson though

I normally wake up at 5 to 530 every morning so the plan was to go slow trolling for 3 hrs or so before the heat kicked up. I didn't wake up until 730...stayed home and cooked my catch from the other day.

I plan on doing some fishing this Friday, first time in over a month with my new fathers day present. Wife bought me a kayak and I am planning on fishing a small 2 acre pond choked full of I believe coon tail. Don't really know what to try to fish with being as hot as it is and especially from my new "boat" anyone have any suggestions? Thanks all and take care.

Weather is supposed to be more mild starting Wednesday. But with a body of water that small shouldn't effect the bite too much. I would use a jig or the like if you go for bass, something lower in the water column.

Got out on the lake yesterday in the rain. Three of us caught a mixed bag of crappie, redear, bluegills, and one perch. To give you an idea of size, the perch is 11". Total catch was fifty, a full gallon bag of filets. It was a slow but steady bite, fished about 5 hours.

So took the kayak out for it's maiden voyage, after my wife took my truck key and after the kayak flew out of the back of the truck and bounced off a mailbox I finally got out to the lake to do some fishing.
Caught 2 bass which were an absolute blast, definitely had a lot of fun fishing from it. If you have the extra money laying around I would definitely suggest getting one. They are a lot of fun.
Come to think of the whole key thing, I probably need to think of some type of "payback" for the wife.

Beat up the channel catfish pretty good on Rend lake (southern IL) Saturday. Wound up keeping (30) nice fish that probably averaged about 3.5 lbs each. Had catfish nuggets, hush puppies, fried potatoes and homemade cole slaw that evening to cap it off.

17"-18" in length, 3#-3 3/4# each. I caught 3 on 2# test line, then switched to 4# test so I wouldn't pop one off since I didn't bring the net to the pond with me. All caught on a #8 Owner Mosquito Hook and a single Stubby Steves Pellet. Caught a few Yellow Perch that were as long as 2 1/2 1x6 deck boards are wide, returned those to the pond. Since the water is pretty warm, I'll fillet these and brine them before throwing them in the smoker later on this week.

Finally got out on lake Monroe to do some fishing this past Friday. We ended up keeping 23 crappie and two channel cats. Most crappie were 12-13”, but we did have a couple 15” ones as well.

Fishing has really slowed here since the heat wave. But we did have a big fish fry last weekend from all the fish caught in the spring. Catfish were rubbed with 1/2 yellow mustard and 1/2 horse radish/ mustard found at Kroger’s. then dipped in flour. (Kentucky kernel). Wasn’t sure how it would turn out but couldn’t keep that bin full. Kids loved it.

Dave, we are headed to Monroe this weekend, and have fished there many times during the last few years but never had any success, let alone 20 keepers. What is your secret?

I was on a boat with a couple who fish every weekend Friday through Sunday. They troll crankbaits along the edges in different areas of the lake. A couple weekends ago they kept 50 crappie, 5 channel cats, and a walleye in about 5 hours of fishing.

Link to the crank baits and trolling speed. Or I don't believe it happened

Well I’m not giving away all their secrets, but if you have a boat and want to catch catfish. A little off the bank on the west side of four winds is a big hole that gets to about 40 feet deep. If you throw from the water towards the bank at that hole you are very likely to catch some nice channel cats. Use shrimp.
One other secret. You have to troll from a 24 ft pontoon with a 115 horse on the back.
