Billy, I cheat too, I have a 3500. But, I've learned that what the wind is doing where I am at isn't 100% of the time what it is doing between me and the target, especially the longer and longer distance you shoot.
While shooting steel at 1,000 yds, I've seen winds at 400 yds from left to right, and at 800 yds it was from right to left. Watching bullet trace, it made an "S" to the target. (175 grain .308 Win)

I enjoy practice because my friend and I practice together we are both pro deer stalkers. I also go out to crazy ranges on steel, his 300wsm is ideal for that. Roe deer furthest I shot one myself was 398yds and that was because a client had taken a leg off it. Roe are small out there let me tell you lol.
That's,the reason I wait until the deer is standing with backside into the wind because if it's gusty out there it will take the bullet either forward into the boiler room or miss in front of its brisket. I don't have time to chase wounded deer so I take no chances. This job is frustrating, like I said last night no foxes, I gets into bed half hour later the mobile bleeps my friend I had been with went out to sort his dogs he flashed the light over the field in front of his house and a blooming Fox was there. It's unbelievable, so last night's score was Foxes 1 Furtakers 0 Lol Billy.

And before anyone says it I know a proper mountain man furtaker would of got back out of bed at 2.30am got dressed drove out just in case, the predator was still in the field. I looked answered his text turned over and went to sleep.
Ok I'm only playing at it,but it's good fun, lol Regards Billy.
