Firearm hunts include any firearm legal to take deer in Indiana. Archery hunts include any archery equipment legal to take deer in Indiana.
From the reserved hunt info page.

I will most likely still use my 35 Remington 1.8" even though I have a nice 30-06. The old Marlin is just handier.

Is private land defined under these new rules, as land that is not owned by the state or federal government? What can happen now if someone trespasses and is hunting and is caught using a HPR will he also be ticketed for using and illegal weapon?

Can I go to the doctor and get an exception stating that I need to use an hpr on public land for health reasons if they deny me the ability do you think the NAACP will pick my case or maybe AL Sharpton?

It looks like I sold my.243 about 3 weeks too soon, dang it! I've got a .300 Win but truly feel it's over kill and I need to spend more time with it before I would be comfortable taking it to the woods. I'm thinking there's going to be some good deals on PCRs and maybe even muzzleloaders come November... In the meantime I'll keep the .44 mag '94 dialed in. Dead is dead in my book. The 300 Win Mag offers a couple hundred fps over the 30-06 for normal loads and 300-400 fps advantage over the 30-06 for upper end loads but you can also download the .300 Win Mag to 30-06 performance.

Here in Kentucky, We don't have this High Powered Rifle issue choice to deal with. I have several Deer Rifles, of various calibers, which I can choose the one I wish to use.

I probably won't be using one next year due to the lack of funds. By the time I buy my boy his new .243, scope and all that comes with it I'm going to be broke. Greeting gs1 Dont know how young your boy is but i started my two off at eleven years old with my 308 with a silencer on. There is very little recoil with a silencer fitted. And one can always load reduced loads if need be. I always think a 243 is very marginal for roe never mind deer as heavy as yours are, nothing worse than a bad experience to put youngsters off. 243 would not be my choice if i came over there for your deer, i have actually shot an awful lot of deer with one as it is what was issued to me on starting, and i was the first ranger in the country to ask to go to 308, now every goverment stalker is on 308. I was spending a lot less time tracking my deer than they were, lol I dont even know if it is legal to use a silencer for deer over there, just a thought, then with a 308 you can take most anything you have over there, it will even make a grizzly feel sort of ill i would imagine. lol As you can guess i have nothing but praise for the do everything, get anywhere round. lol regards to you and family Billy

Honestly, I hope so. I'll pick up a .44 Handi Rifle for both of the kids if they hit the market cheap enough. One thing to consider in your pricing is that the Handi-Rifle is no longer being made. Still, someone may dump one cheap enough to fund a new rifle.

I look forward to breaking out my ol' Savage .243. It has killed quite a few PA. and MD deer, but hasn't been shot much since I moved back to Indy in 1994.

Most likely not. My bow is more potent anyways haha! Is it, or is it simply because of the dates in which each is legal to use? ;-) You got a smile out of me! I definitely love the early season, everything about nature is much better in my opinion then. If they would ever legalized firearms then and ban bows, well I'd probably have to start using a firearm again

My .30/06 used to be much worse to shoot than my H&R slug gun when it was a 7lb rifle, I added a Boyd's laminate stock, a better recoil pad, and a slightly heavier scope which bumped the weight up to around 8.5lbs. Much more pleasurable to shoot now.

It's a bit "overkill" on Whitetails though. A Hunting friend of mine here in Ky, once shot a Doe one season with his .300 Win. Mag. several years ago, and the wound channel was huge. He shot it through the shoulders and destroyed them both, range was around 75 yards. As for recoil, your .300 Win. Mag. recoil is very manageable, just being a bit heavier than a .30-06.
