It's set up you only get counted one time ,Fishing license get funds from a similar tax called Dingell /Johnson We Sportsmen Ask the Government to tax us . Read the post on the Landowner connections.! In the campfire So if I buy 5 deer tags I only count as 1? This was the first year I have not bought a tag for deer in the 25+ years I have hunted deer in Indiana. I have bought the deer bundle licenses since it came out but usually don't use them. I haven't shoot a deer off somewhere else in years but I still go. If I get one on my land I just put it under landowner and save my tags for when I get one not on my land. So the $3.75 won't count me again. Right?

Maybe we should make a poll of who just hunts their own land exclusively and doesn't hunt anywhere else. That might give us a idea of just what we would get from this $3.75 land owner fee.

From what I have seen on here most guys do buy tags even if they do have ground I know I do even if I only hunt my land that year

I REALLY DONT THINK CHARGING THE LAND OWNERS A FEE TO HARVEST AN ANIMAL ON THEIR OWN LAND IS A VERY GOOD IDEAL.THE STATE HAS ALREADY DOUBBLED THE DEER TAGS IN RECENT YEARS.WHERE DID ALL THAT EXTRA MONEY GO? NOT TO SPEAK OF RAISING THE STATE PARK RATES!!MAYBE THEY NEED TO CUT BACK ON THERE HIGH PAYED STAFF,AND START SELLING DNR COOKIES,OR SOMEING LIKE THAT.

lol ... complaints that the DNR is greatly understaffed at this time is more the norm.
Im sure the DNR wastes its share of money just like every other govt department but I dont think they waste it on staff.

Making it optional is the easiest solution. Those that wish to contribute will and those that would do nothing but complain don't have to worry about it.

For all of you that hunt on someone's private land and think land owners should buy a tag to hunt, please tell them how you feel. Let me know when you do. I've been looking for new hunting land and I bet you would open up some spots for me.

Do not get me wrong I do not like Gov wasting money but would rather the dnr waste it here so at least some of it goes to local people and pockets than some other state. The more wasted here the better chance we can benifits from it

Wouldn't the $3.75 to the state get around $50 P-R money from the federal government? Thats right ;;;;; we have to have a drivers licence after we buy a car and then Plate it every year maybe we shouldn't be paying that fee ?? We own the car why pay for the Roads HMMMM You've made a good point. I pay taxes on my property that includes a 50' easement across the front that I am not allowed to use. The county and state call it a road. Maybe I shouldn't have to pay for a drivers license..

How about this: I pay the $3.75 for my landowner hunting license and then I present proof of more than $3.75 worth of habitat improvement, do I get my license fee refunded?
I'm willing to bet that the value ($/acre) of habitat improvement on private land that sees annual hunting activity is greater than the same number on state owned land. A state with the vast majority of it huntable land privately held should not erect barriers to hunting because the greater the interest in hunting, the more investment in improving that hunting. Habitat benefits everyone and everything.

I realize I'm coming in about a week late, but that's how long it took me to read all the posts after Woody sent out the email. As a transplant from out-of-state I have a couple of questions for you guys. I know I could look this information up but there are quite a few of you on here that seem to already have this stuff down so I figured it would just be easier to post the questions here. 1. A couple (actually a lot) of the landowners indicated hunting for free on their property was a RIGHT. Is hunting for free on property you own a right of the landowner something that has been decided by the legislature of the state and made law? Is it something that has just been passed down through the generations and anytime the state/DNR/legislature tries to pass a law to charge the landowner the law doesn't get enough votes to pass? I ask this because where I used to live we needed to purchase a license even if we were hunting our own (ag) land. "Block Permits" were offered to control crop damage, but other than crop damage permits everyone had to purchase a license to hunt. 2. I don't know how to word this question without it sounding negative, but I mean nothing negative by it. In Indiana are wildlife part of the public trust? To me, the answer to this would determine how I would hold an opinion on whether a landowner would be required to purchase a FULL PRICE license or not. 3. Great thread Woody! I agree, it really pulled some people out of the woodwork, myself included.

Wildlife is owned by the state.
Landowners get a pass on lisences because we foot the bill to feed the states wildlife, and shelter them.
Now, if the state wants to reimburse me on the crop losses, damage etc caused by the states wildlife, we can talk about me paying to hunt my own land. My .02
