Last evening a little after 7:00 pm, my Brother & I were watching TV when we heard a rifle shoot in our front field. This field is along side of a narrow road & when I looked out the kitchen window I saw a Truck or Car move away real slow. This morning, I went over to where I heard the shot and found that a POACHER shot a Deer on my property, as there was blood spots and I could see where he dragged it. Now the scarry thing about this is if he missed the bullet would have passed through our home where we were sitting and might have hit one of us. I reported it to the Poacher Hot Line this morning. They are going to patrol my area. I have reason to believe someone who lives in the area was the Poacher as they would need to know the area & also know it is fairly remote. I hope they catch this Game Stealer quickly.

That is too bad. I would have called when the shot was heard. Then I'd have jumped in my truck and seen if I could get a license plate. Heck, you probably know the guy or at least the vehicle.
Anyone that poaches deer and especially shoots toward houses deserves to go to jail.

I think anyone that poaches period deserves a jail sentence ! I turned my uncle and his buddies in b4 for poachin, they lost some weapons and got fines, but I really wish they would of gotten so jail time, family or not poachin is illegal and I cant stand poachers, if u cant take em legal dont take em at all !!!! I hope they find the ppl responsible for shootin deer in ur field and thank God that no one was hurt !

Uh... bullets pass THRU deer. AT least good ones do.

Good luck, hope they nail em' to the wall I do too! I am afraid that Deer Poaching, is on the increase, due to the economy, in some areas. I remember years back when I lived in Southwest Indiana this was a problem widespread. If the Poachers start killing Deer out of Season soon there will be no Deer to hunt.

Wow, I hate to hear that. Good luck in tracking them down.
I would keep some good binos handy to try and get details like plate, vehicle type, etc. from your house, if that's possible That way you don't have to get in a chase or potential altercation. You already know they're armed and not afraid to break the law. So who knows what they're capable of.

Why are you waiting to call until morning? You knew that they had obviously shot from a vehicle. This is why people never get caught.

I hate to say it, but it was probably a good buck. Why would a poacher take the risk of being caught over a doe or a little buck. I know some of them just shoot anything and leave it there, but this guy took it with him. Hopefully I am wrong.

I should have but the whole incident cought me & my Brother off guard. I can promise this IF this CRIMINAL is cought doing this again on my land; he WILL be prosecuted for endangerment, trespassing, unlawful use of a firearm, and poaching. Also this IDIOT will most likely try this again and if cought he WILL GO TO JAIL!!

I know some of them just shoot anything and leave it there, but this guy took it with him. Hopefully I am wrong. The amount of time it took thhis poacher to shoot & take the Deer suggest it was either a small Doe or Button Buck. I really don't think it was a good Buck as the drag marks as well as the blood pool left behind was not that large. We saw four antlerless Deer yesterday evening in the back field grazing. Wish they would all stay in the back field away from the front road.

Scary stuff! I hope they catch em, lock them up and throw away the key! YES VERY SCARY!! To think what might have happened if the poacher missed the Deer!! I e-mailed several friends and told them what happen and one very good friend liiving in Gibson County in Indiana says this goes on all the time up there and wonders if that is the reason the Deer sighting are down. He & his Wife are thinking of taking their 300 acres & turn their land into a nature preserve or something. This would mean NO HUNTING for them or anyone on their land!!

That would probably increase the number of deer there if they are currently being hunted. That in turn may seem MORE inviting to road-hunters.

My friend in Gibson County, says that the area would be guarded day & night by security guards. Also he said he has seen less Deer this past season up there, than he can remember.

24/7 patrol is the only way to keep trespassers out. I can't ever remember seeing this few deer as I have this year.
