Mad Dog, Good suggestion.. Buried somewhere in all these discussions over the last year is that exact information. Maybe it's time for a review of that.. Maybe whoever posted it can repost instead of doing a big search.. thanks.. I posted a table like that in another thread once upon a time as did someone else I believe. I will look for it and if I can't find it make a new one.

I've been doing a little shopping around and price comparison for a carbine if the they are legalized and I have been pleasantly surprised by the response the gunshops I have talked to have been getting. It seems each shop had more than a few orders in already and with even more people shopping around while waiting for the rule to be finalized like I am. Not surprisingly the .44 magnum seems to be the early favorite, with the .357 a distant second.

Having deer hunted in Ind. for about 30 yrs., I have used all weapons, except handgun[can't shoot em worth a durn cause of eye dominace]. That being said I'm all for the rifle season. My question is for those of you more computer literate than I. Has anyone tried to look up ballistic/trajectory tables, combine them, then cut/copy/paste and send them to those people? They don't need a book, cause they will just get lost. The following would be some suggestions. 1. 12 ga. Hornady SST 2. 12 ga. winchester nosler part gold sabot 3. Remington core lokt ultra sabo 4. .45 cal. ML 3 pellet load with sabots such as nosler 5. .357, .41 mag, .45LC, and .44 mag., with appropriate hunting loads. I might also add the .45-70, .444 marlin, and .450 marlin. These are also straight walled, and lall in line withe the above mentioned shotgun/ML ballistic/trajectory loads. Maybe if you post them here, also, it will defuse some of the animosity towards the use of these rounds. Just my thoughts...... Mad Dog If the .45-70, .444 and .450 Marlin are included, would it be out of line to include traditional, eastern U.S. brush cartridges like the .30-30 and .35 Remington? They're certainly no greater downrange hazard than the specialty hunting pistols in .308, or high-end, in-line muzzle-loaders. I look for the NRC and DNR to make it abundantly clear that Indiana will be a "Medium Range" state as far as deer hunting with firearms goes. I also look for them to spell out the calibers approved to make everything easy to understand and, most especially, easy to enforce. Indiana DNR has assigned a number of people to research this matter and I've actually been impressed with everything I've seen them doing so far. I think things will be better when they get this hammered out and put into law.

How many DNR employees are actually working on this? I think the number is probably one by the name of Mark Reiter.

Total BULL H.H. Once again, you amaze me in your anti-OBR agenda. I am a bow hunter 95% of the time. I would not hurt my feelings if there never were a gun season, but I support gun seasons in one form or another because I think it benefits the herd and hunting in general. Yet I actually support the use of these guns, just not some of the lame arguments for their use. So DON'T come on here and generalize anti-support for this as just another attempt by bowhunters to push their OBR agenda. That is BULL and you know it. You and a couple others on here just can't get past your anti-OBR sentiment.
I say let the hunters have the pistol cartridge guns. I'll support it in full and I'm a BOW HUNTER.

WW, I think the ones against the rule change have a real reason why but they are afraid to post it. I really think their reason is they bow hunt mostly and don't want gun seasons or they would like to shorten the gun seasons. I feel their real reason comes down to growing big antlers again. h.h Well, one of the "Anti's" here has said exactly that elsewhere, so IMO you are dead on... (With a few notable exceptions like DEC of course... )

is the USA...can I just NOT want them??? Yes. And you can choose to not use them. But, as you say, this is the USA and you can NOT dictate to me what I can have/use - not without an overriding rational, reasoned argument that will stand up in court.

Dec, I must have struck a nerve. No where in my post did i mention the OBR. You haven't seen me post anything about the OBR since the IDNR made their decision for another 5 year trial and you wont. I respect someone who is man enough to say I'm a bow hunter and don't want any or less gun seasons more than i do some of the guys who are posting some sorry reasons not to allow there use. It seems some on here are always against any rule changes that doesn't directly benefit their deer hunting agendas and its always the same bunch. h.h. Greghopper, you have a right to not like anything you want. i was just curious as to your reason not allowing these guns, you seemed so set in your answers but if you don't want to tell me then that is alright. h.h.

Since I'm a guilty as the next guy for high jacking this thread lets all get back to the subject. The question is "will you use a pistol caliber rifle if they are legalized"?

Yeah, no need. It's been definitively stated elsewhere. (you want me to link the threads?) No other proof or argument necessary. yes...post them Quickly, without really looking hard... Only one poster counted per thread. I've avoided repeat posts as best as possible. Mostly "Shorten" but also a few "Move gun season" posts. (Links removed by request.) And no, Greg/Brewers, you have NOT posted in favor of shortening or moving Gun. But others HAVE - and that was the point. Now. Back to why we should have the FREEDOM to use any gun cartridge combination that fits objective range/safety criteria set by the DNR...

Fellers,
I don't want to shut this thread down as I see it as a pretty good poll to see what real interest is out there in using a pistol cartridge rilfe for deer hunting.
Now...
Present data.
Present information.
Present your opinions..
But leave the sniping at each other and who has what unproven hidden agendas at the front door.
I only have to click one button to delete a post, delete a thread or a delete a member. I don't want to do any of that so please clean it up or take it to PMs.
Thanks... .

If it goes through, I'd like to get a Ruger semi-auto but will consider a Henry lever action if the Ruger is out of stock.
