David, I think your friend is spot on about the "eco-fuels" it is a farse. People say 99 cent gas again with ethanol...that is bs...if it were true they would have been making that profit when regular gas was 150 steady... Farmers will get rich, outdoorsman will lose, and nothing will change. It is MHO that coal gasification is what should be worked on. Hydrogen is an option eventually, but dirty coal can be made into semi-clean gas that will be much more cost effective than anything else, AND much greener when used as gasified fuel, than burnt for power anywhere. I know several people very, VERY deep in the alternate fuels market, coal gasification, and hydrogen, this is where the federal dollars and private investing is going right now. Take my word for it... My Cousin said that bio-fuels aren't the answer. For one thing it take more energy to produce them and they are more polluting. As for other alternate fuel sources, coal would also pollute, and leave vast areas in ruins. THE only answer to our energy needs are Nuclear power plants built in the Wilds of Canada, away from populated areas, and Hydrogen fuel cell for cars. Unfortunately this planet's inhabitants lack intelligence (or simply don't want to) develope these altrernatives fuel sources.

Buying gas for my lawn mower is cutting into my turkey hunting driving and I hate to see what it's going to cost me come goose season. I don't care what my neighbors say I'm turning my lawn into a wildlife habitat area. I believe the US has been spoiled with the gas prices for many years. I know when I was in Europe in the early 70s I was paying ALLOT more than here at home and probably close to what we pay now. But the way look at it is everything has and is going up, to include my income. I look at the vehicle prices over the last 35-40 years. I bought a brand new Plymouth Cuda for $4000, look what kind of a used vehicle you get today for that price. The only thing that does bother me is the jerking around with the price, up and down every other day. I'd rather they make it the $3 (or whatever) and leave it there.

Did you ever notice that the jump UP is a lot more drastic than the decline? It has gone up by as much as 20 cents and then when it does start back down it is one or two cents at a time. Just about the time it has got back to where it was it jumps up again - big time Yes, you are right ... we are spoiled on gas prices... but we can still gripe ..

Johnsmiles - You asked "And, just exactly what changes do you suggest I, or anyone else, instill into our lives to offset the soaring price of gas?" Lot's of things a guy could do: Carpool to work. Drive a high mileage automobile. Relocate to a home closer to work. Walk places. Ride a bike places. Adopt the Amish lifestyle. Move to a metro area where you can walk to work. Move to Venezuela where gas is under fifty cents per gallon. Learn a new skill so you can make more money. Take night classes to educate yourself, so you can make more money. Grow 50% of your food in a garden so you have more money for gas. If you are a two car family, get rid of one car. Get rid of cable TV, internet, cell phones, magazines, or other unnecessary monthly bills so you have more money for gas. This list could go on and on ......... Grant it, some of these choices would be difficult or impractical, but you do have these options and a many, many others. Nobody holds a gun to our head and forces us to buy gas, we are all just married to the automobile driven lifestyle. My buddies daughter lives in Minneapolis and they choose to not even own a car, because it is a big hassle, expensive, parking is tough, etc. They walk and commute to work, and fly to Indy and rent a car when they come visit the folks. We are going to see a lot more of that in the future, much like Europe.

Heck, I have seen it go up by $0.60 in less than 2 full days up here in Lafayette Woody! And on more than one occasion. And heck yeah we can still gripe. . . . gripe gripe gripe gripe gripe gripe gripe gripe gripe gripe gripe gripe gripe gripe gripe gripe gripe gripe gripe gripe gripe gripe gripe gripe gripe gripe gripe gripe gripe gripe . . . !!!!!!! ;D legalize hemp and make fuel out of the seed oil, problem solved I am for that. Hemp has many VERY viable uses the government went to great lentgths to cover up and lie to us about 50 years ago. Anyone here remember the commercials depicting 'marijuana crazed black men raping white women'?

Remember now, no gas bought on the 15th . . . Hey, I am game, but I don't recall the boycott last year causing gas to drop a dime myself, let alone the $0.30 some are claiming. Now, if a statement were to be made, it would require everyone filling up Thursday & Friday, and buying no gas until they ghad to. While some few would need gas in 3 days or less, some could go 3 weeks or more. A day does nothing. Fill up by the 14th, and stretch that tankfull out as far as possible. Nationwide(as if) that would indeed get attention!

I have an '07 Z71 and it hurts to drive it. So I forked over $900 and bought an 87 Honda off a family memeber that had only 65K miles and $25 of gas lasts me 2 to 3 weeks going to work. I enjoy the truck and won't get rid of it but only use the truck when I need a truck.

Fill up the day before or the day after? How will that hurt the oil companies? About the only way to get their attention is for everybody to stay home and don't drive for a few days.
