Ah. Sorry. Didn't realize it was part of an ongoing joke. The "hobbits" were a real thing and it's pretty interesting. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homo_floresiensisAnother reason it kind of es me off. The truth is pretty interesting all by itself.

I watched it. It was entertaining, but I get annoyed when educational channels show this kind of found footage fictional stuff without making it abundantly clear it's not real. They did the same thing with mermaids a year or two ago.

How'd you find out about the walk through? Heard Jim speak at the deer, turkey, and waterfowl expo and would love to see a place he's worked on.

Well, I tried to put a plot in today. I was brush cutting beforehand and accidentally scared up a fawn. I turned the machine off and backed off. He bedded down a short distance away so hopefully no harm. Too bad I spooked him but was cool to see.
Waited 30 or 40 minutes before trying to go back to my planned plot area to let him settle back in. Not holding out high hopes for the plot though. I was able to clear most of the vegetation, but it was far from pristine.
Regardless, it was a pretty cool day. Never seen such a young fawn before.

You have to look at it from the land owner's perspective. On the one hand, they may say why let you hunt for free when they can lease to someone else.
There's also the safety issue. They don't know you and you want to be using a firearm around their home and family. How do they know you're not going to say screw it and take a shot at the trophy buck between you and their house.
I'd say you're either going to have to hunt public land or build a genuine friendship with a landowner.

I'd like to put some very small plots on my land, but I'm limited to what I can do with hand tools. Probably give it a go soon as long as the weather holds.

So I didn't see any threads explicitly about dealing with trespassers so I thought I'd start one.
We've had someone break into our barn once, but haven't had much problem otherwise. However, with turkey and mushroom season coming up, I was trying to think of a plan. We're not around our property as much as we should be so likely I'm not going to catch anyone red handed.
If I do, I'm torn between balancing making it clear it's not worth their trouble to be on my land against making them mad enough that they'll deliberately mess with my place.
Curious to hear everyone's thoughts and experiences.
Thanks.

I don't consider it very sporting, but as long as the animals are dispatched humanely, I don't have an issue with it per se. However, there need to be some very stringent regulations around it. It would be a terrible day for all of us if CWD makes it's way into Indiana.
There's no known way to remove the disease from an area once it's there. My concern with allowing it is what people are going to try to pull. They're going to want big deer and who is watching them to make sure they're not going to import some when no one is looking?

I don't buy it. Coyotes have lost a lot of their fear of humans in many areas, but getting it to jump into a carrier in the back of a truck seems unlikely.

They can carry leprosy. Most people are immune to leprosy though. I saw on TV where some people eat them.
