Fd, you listen to pod casts? I pick up meat eater a few times but today I found a recent one about ducks and the genetics of feral ducks. His guest said new jersey has no wild based mallards and 2nd on the list is great lakes. Impact is linked to 20 year decline on mallards -2% each year. Kind of interesting. But we don't need no fancy degree or title the reason is DUCKS HATE INDIANA! So no great nesting areas anymore to bring in other mallards ect?

The theory was that the feral strains were impacting the mallards ability to reproduce successfully. Releasing mallards to supplement historical hunting areas has been common for a long time but rarely discussed. For instance, they were talking about Chesapeake Bay. Even if survival rate is 3% with time, those begin to dilute wild strains of mallards. It has been a good discussion. Pretty sure I will finish it today on my drive to work or back. The discussed pheasant and trout releases as well but very briefly. It was not, at least yet, been for or against releasing. It is more fact gathering and reporting the info that they are finding.

Been chasing whitetail bucks so hard that I almost forgot to chase some ducks. Walked the creek on our property this morning for the first time this year. Shot these two off our pond. Couldn’t have asked for a better little hunt this morning.
