Not live but fairly close. It’s been a slow season for me so far. Several long sits with no deer seen and camera has been dead. This guy showed at 7:50 am this morning out of nowhere. He came in real quite and quick and almost got past me. Fortunately I was able to stop him in the last shooting lane I had. It may have been a little longer but from the point of first seeing him to letting the arrow fly it may have been 15 seconds. Congrats

Wind shifted on me blew my scent downhill to a decent buck I couldn't see at about 60 yds behind some brush...until he blew and took off. 😞

Going to be taking my boys out for the gun opener on Saturday. My oldest has been with me on a deer hunt from a ground blind once last year. My other boy hasn’t ever been on a deer hunt with me. They are 8 and 6. We will be sitting in a double stand on the edge of the CRP field. From the looks of it, supposed to be pretty chilly in the morning (32 in the morning). Does anyone have any tips for keeping the youngins warm? They will obviously both be layered up with snow clothes on and I will probably pack as many hot hands as I can, but didn’t know if anyone had any extra tips. If anyone has any, they’d be much appreciated. I do not say this with a negative tone just a bit of experience on this. First, thank you for taking the young ones, our sport needs them dearly. Yes, pack as much "stay warm" stuff as possible, snacks are a big plus maybe a thermos of hot chocolate or chicken noodle soup. After that you have done all you can to keep them comfortable be prepared for a short outing, also be prepared to NOT get mad when 8:00 comes and one of them has had enough of being cold and tired. If you can be ready for this and not get upset I believe they will try it more and more, then they'll be hooked on hunting like the rest of us. Good luck, hope you get a good one! Let us know how it goes please. Absolutely. I’m already fully expecting them to be ready to go an hour after sun up. I’m totally fine with that. I usually don’t even take a gun out. Most years, there are gunshots going on around me and I’m in the stand with my compound. That being said, it’s getting toward the part of the year where I’d be happy to stack some does for the freezer and I thought an hour or so on opening morning with a gun would be the perfect opportunity to let my boys see me shoot one. I have 0 expectations and all the patience in the world for Saturday morning. Just want to get them up in a stand and let them watch the woods wake up. But I want them to be able to enjoy it for as long as they want to; hence why I want to make sure they’re as warm as can be. I appreciate the encouraging words for sure though. 😃

Hearing protection for the kids.

Lone 4 point early and that's it. Have a couple of blinds to put some orange on and lunch and I'll be back at for this afternoon and evening hunt, hopefully it'll be better than this morning.

Activity will probably pick up this afternoon before rain begins tonight. I will be clearing the gutters of the widow across the street and getting my trailer back into shape this afternoon. I am off Friday, but it is now calling for 90% chance of rain. Don't think I'll hunt. Blood is hard enough to find being colorblind. Would be impossible for me to find it with everything wet and washing it away, too. Maybe I'll go fishing if it isn't a very hard rain.

Got notified this morning that a deer had been killed in front of my property, so I went down there to check it out and what I thought was a doe was a big, bodied buck with nothing but nubs for antlers? ? He was at least 2 1/2 maybe older and had been hit by a charcoal-colored vehicle as pieces and parts were laying around him. His rack was not broken off from the accident, but he sure wouldn't meet the 3" requirement as a shooter buck! Hated to see him go to waste, but he definitely needed taken out of the herd!

Not needed if you have a good can on the rifle. I don't need hearing protection when shooting my .308 now. Have you ever measured the noise level it’s at now? An average .308 suppressor will drop the decibel level down to around 130 dB. OSHA considers hearing damage from impulse noise to be 140 dB and above. My particular.308 suppressor knocks 30 dB off versus unsuppressed. Compare that to various earplugs and muffs to get a good comparison of noise reduction.

Had this guy come by Sunday at my Perry county property. Went there Monday and came back today. Had him behind Tuesday morning but couldn’t get turned around in time. Watching him walk away hurt more than childbirth. Saw 10 deer every hunt and numerous bucks but I’m after this guy.
