Every morning on my way in. Any certain brand you prefer? I like to spray bottom of boots sometimes….Wildlife Research Special Golden Estrus Scent. I use Hoosier Trapper Supply doe in estrous. I buy it sometime in October when my buddy Tom at Cutting Edge Sporting Goods tells me he gets in a fresh batch. It’s a 4 oz bottle for $10. I start using the drag around Halloween when I start using my better sets.

For some reason I just had a feeling it was hoosier trapper supply scents. Could’ve called that one. Always heard good things about their scents. That’s who has done all my mounts as well.

Every morning on my way in. Anything actually follow the trail in? The only time I had a buck follow my trail to the stand was when I put some fox urine (with a hint of deer musk) on my boots. He followed me all the way nose to the ground. I was smart enough to walk past my stand at 20 yards befire looping back to jt. A 140+ ten pointer thought it smelled great until he got hit with a Remington Slug www.jamesvalleycompany.com/product-category/scent-products/

That 4 oz bottle works out just right. It’s usually empty just when things are pretty much over.

Going to be taking my boys out for the gun opener on Saturday. My oldest has been with me on a deer hunt from a ground blind once last year. My other boy hasn’t ever been on a deer hunt with me. They are 8 and 6. We will be sitting in a double stand on the edge of the CRP field. From the looks of it, supposed to be pretty chilly in the morning (32 in the morning). Does anyone have any tips for keeping the youngins warm? They will obviously both be layered up with snow clothes on and I will probably pack as many hot hands as I can, but didn’t know if anyone had any extra tips. If anyone has any, they’d be much appreciated.

A little portable heater would help tremendously if you have one.

I second the little buddy heater. I’m taking my 11 year old daughter for her first ever hunt. We will be sitting in a shooting house and will definitely have the little buddy cooking.

I have a little buddy heater in the main blind I plan on hunting and one of the smaller, more packable ones to lug around to my other blinds as needed. I doubt I go out again until the Friday after Thanksgiving. Giving the woods a little rest and my neighbors some time to connect before I go on doe patrol.

The heat they generate stays in the bag and keeps thier shoes warm which helps keep thier feet warm and keeps thier coat warm to put hands in. If thier head gets cold can pull bag up around head and utilize the stored heat in the bag. A lot of times your feet get cold because your shoes get cold Good luck Onebentarrow

I give a 2nd vote to both the sleeping bag and heater.

That's the exact drag that I use. How often do you wash/change the end of it?

Yes, pack as much "stay warm" stuff as possible, snacks are a big plus maybe a thermos of hot chocolate or chicken noodle soup. After that you have done all you can to keep them comfortable be prepared for a short outing, also be prepared to NOT get mad when 8:00 comes and one of them has had enough of being cold and tired. If you can be ready for this and not get upset I believe they will try it more and more, then they'll be hooked on hunting like the rest of us. Good luck, hope you get a good one! Let us know how it goes please.
