Well she would not have same luck here! In years past, I'd have laid her out stiffer than a board. I guess I've become an old softie. Lol! I've never hunted with a crossbow before, and since today will probably be the last day that I'll pack one this season, I really wanted to get a kill with it. I had her dead to rights a million times as she stood broadside at 10 yards and was looking directly away from me, but deep down I really didn't want to end her life on this day.

Every deer is a gameday decision for me. Sometimes if it is brown it is down. Other days it would take a right deer to get me to pull the trigger. In other words, I got no standards other than...if it feels good, do it!

Looks like I’ll be hunting Big Oaks tomorrow. Had to go scrounging around looking for my rifle ammo. Well. I didn’t see any deer but my brother did. He saw a spike a ?? Running and 3 doe Come to find out they did a burn in our area last week. There were still hotspots. Actually 7 from my stand 6 within 50 yds. Made for great cover scent and smelled really good. Couple of those hotspots lit back up a few times. This was behind me less then 10 yds And this one in front of me to my left at 40 yds Very interesting watching little fires start up and recede around you while in a tree. If I had to do it over again I’d probably chose a different area. But my brother saw the deer…… Are you in 22?

In other words, I got no standards other than...if it feels good, do it! My wife texted that "does are a dime a dozen" and that I can always get one another day. We don't eat more than a deer a year, so I'll just keep holding out for a buck for the time being. For the first 20 years, my average was 4 deer a season, with the excess going to friends and family. I didn't even put a deer in the freezer last year. The 11-pointer I shot in muzzleloader season last December was taken to the processor and then given to my recently-disabled cousin after I picked up the tab.

Had one blowing upwind of us. Gave it an hour, but no show. Didnt even see a dang skurry. We pulled the plug, swapped and moved a blind for Luke when he can get out in gun season. That's a wrap.
See you guys Saturday morning!

I haven't had any luck and I'm having a tracking dog come. He is driving about an hour and 15 minutes. He doesn't have a set price and it's pay what you think it's worth. What do you guys think? Have you used a tracking service and how much was it?

Just had a 6-pointer walk by at 30 yards with his tongue hanging out. No idea how he didn't wind me.

Have you used a tracking service and how much was it? Must be so he doesn't claim income? Seems mileage would be a minimum set fee. Time be another consideration. He will have 4 hrs easy with travel time and recovery efforts. Mechanics are never cheaper than $50/hr. I would think $200 is fair then tip if recovered. If I had a dog and wanted to track other's deer that would be my baseline. But I would never tell a customer whatever they feel like paying either. Good luck

Good luck!
