Pretty quiet here this morning. Seen one button buck just after light and then a 7 pointer cruising 2 hours later. Thats been it. Little bit windier then what was forecasted when i went to bed last night too. Looks like another warm week too comin up.

Whats everyones trick for getting them out of the steep places. To steep for deer cart or 4 wheeler, and doing it yourself A couple of things I have used.
1: Block / Tackle and good climbing rope.
2. Come Along Tool and rope
3. Warn Portable winch.
Kinda hard to pack all that in: I have a 3 day Kuiu backpacking back country pack that is big enough to carry the Block / Tackle
At 57, 2 titanium knees, and low back fusion, I am more than content of just taking a picture of the buck vs shooting and then facing reality of getting it out. I dont miss those days of deep woods / back country recovery.

Just had a 6-pointer walk by at 30 yards with his tongue hanging out. No idea how he didn't wind me. That little fella made a huge loop and ended up at my camera hundreds of yards away -- with his mouth still hanging open. Lol!

I haven't had any luck and I'm having a tracking dog come. He is driving about an hour and 15 minutes. He doesn't have a set price and it's pay what you think it's worth. What do you guys think? Have you used a tracking service and how much was it? I would say at minimum a crisp hundred dollar bill to make sure his gas tank is full and he can buy lunch. May be a little extra for his time. I don’t believe most of those guys do it for the money.

If I went through the events of this morning, it would be a small novel lol. Short story, seen 9 doe at 6:15 and shot at the front runner. Hit a twig on a pin oak and game over from there.
Firearms season is going to be my deciding factor if I choose to be tagged out or get bonus tags

Have you used a tracking service and how much was it? Just his driving would be worth $1/mile each way to me, JUST for equipment costs/maintenance/fuel costs. Then add what you think his time would be worth plus the time he spent training the dog. If successuful, I'd probably try to give him at least 2 Benjamin's. I know they do it because they love working the dogs and helping others, but with the price of things today I feel that they shouldn't be paying ME for helping me. Which in reality is what they are doing if their tip isn't at least covering their expenses. FWIW, if you send a bird dog to a trainer it costs roughly $1,500/month for training and food. Then add more $$ for the birds.

I watched a very good Mulie on the last day of my Colorado hunt a few years ago. Probably 28" wide. It was about 1/2 mile DOWN a steep cliff and close to 600 yds out. It would have been a dead deer if it was on flat ground. BUT where it was, it was safe. If it was the 2nd to the last day, I would have thought a lot harder. There were 4 of us, so it wouldn't have been that bad. But the last day and we had to break down and pack camp the next day? Nope.

Congrats to all the guys that have been successful and good luck to the guys that will be out this coming week. Work calls this week, but I will be making up for lost time during the gun season. It's been a weird Fall, still running delivering fish until the beginning of December. Taking a break from the 18th to after Thanksgiving. I just hope the weather cooperates.

Well. I didn’t see any deer but my brother did. He saw a spike a ?? Running and 3 doe Come to find out they did a burn in our area last week. There were still hotspots. Actually 7 from my stand 6 within 50 yds. Made for great cover scent and smelled really good. Couple of those hotspots lit back up a few times. This was behind me less then 10 yds And this one in front of me to my left at 40 yds Very interesting watching little fires start up and recede around you while in a tree. If I had to do it over again I’d probably chose a different area. But my brother saw the deer…… Are you in 22? 29

The crossbow has safely reached its landing pad 20 feet below, and will probably be put away until next season. Have a great afternoon, guys!

This was pretty much my last day to hunt for myself. I work during the week and gun season is going to be all about my wife and stepdaughter getting a deer. The fact that the wife and kids were all home to be part of the recovery today had me in the mood to kill one and be done. This young 8 point gave me a nice open shot at 40 yards. I took out the lungs and heart. I let my stepdaughter lead us on the short blood trail to the buck. The shot was a good example of where she needs to aim. The inner loins will be cooked after the football game.
