Just put my youngest on the school bus, and that was enough to decide that I’m going back to bed. I don’t really have a choice until I put the new starter on my truck, but I’m sure as hell not putting the new starter on right now. Good luck to anyone that braves those cold winds 🥶

Fawn west of me winded me, had a button buck at 10 yards. Finally a big nannie showed up, pin wheeled her at 222yards. Love this 6.5! One more doe tag and my hunt in Indiana is over.

22 when I woke up this morning. They had changed the wind forecast on me. Was supposed to be no more than 10mph, but now shows 15mph with gusts to 20. No thanks. Rolled over for a short nap before having to get up to go to work instead.
Good luck to everyone that ventured out today!

Well...nothing but cold yesterday. We hunted till noon and called it a wrap. Tag soup this year, headed to Anderson to visit family a couple days.....but, wouldn't you know it...Sunday night, had the most deer on cameras the entire time. Had 5 different bucks, biggest was this guy, and 3 different does, wish I had a few more days. Guess they just had to move back in the area. Didn't see anything yesterday morning, but had two little guys right in front of my stand this morning at 8. Good luck to those still getting out, and congrats to those that got it. Until next year fellas, will live threw you all...SF Woody

The coldest I ever hunted was 3 degrees in 1987. I only remember that detail because I took a 10 pointer around 11 am and it was a warm 8 degrees. It was at the end of gun season that year. My guess the last Saturday.

They do look alike. LOL! They’re in the same class of ungulates so if one feels like eating, they usually all feel like eating. (I might be wrong but it sounds good to me) Didn’t see anything though. Started hearing coyotes at about 1700 so I bailed out. Got to my truck, stripped off all my snivel gear, and went to start my truck and only got a metallic ping. Starter. I replaced the starter on my 2015 Ram 1500 at 38k miles and it appears I’ll have to replace it again at 140k miles. I spent about 45 minutes under the truck trying to get something to the solenoid. Finally hit it just right and the truck started. My wife was late for work coming to get me and she had to turn around half way. Think she’s more mad that it finally started than if she had picked me up. At least now I get to fix it in the driveway and not in front of the DNR shack in the middle of nowhere 45 minutes away. I did a starter once in the parking lot of the place that was going to rebuild it for me. The guys working felt sorry for me so he stayed late to get it finished. It was cold and wet that day also.

I did the Ft Ben late hunt yesterday. I didn't see anything in my first stand so about 10 I finally gave in and climbed down to put on my bibs. Moved to a different spot, kicking up one doe along the way. It seemed like attendance was down but did have a pair of guys kick up some does/fawns that ran past me. Ended the day with no arrows released.

My guess the last Saturday. I shot a cow elk in Colorado in -8°F one year and we did deer drives in Wi when temps were in the -20's. One could only stand for one drive, then the standers had to be the drivers just to stay warm. At night the trees that were freezing and popping sounded like rifle shots going off. I remember Dad putting his felt boot liners on top of the oil stove in the cabin to dry and forgetting about them. They had a charred spot on one side. Our boots in the morning were froze to the floor of the cabin - the snow melted off but that froze once it hit the floor. Sleeping bags under the covers on the bed was how we slept. I honestly can't remember if we got any deer that trip or not.

Here's a fun comparison to show how the hunting bug works...
It's relatively the same temp and windchill at home right now as our park hunt conditions yesterday, add blowing snow. I just went out to unload stuff from my truck, and about froze to death in minutes, even though moving around. Yesterday, I sat for 5 hours in the stand relatively motionless, with anticipation of some action, and stayed in pretty good shape.
Wife says things like, you cant wake up for "our" things, but have no trouble waking up at 3am for hunting. Lol.

Definately slow on the other hunting forums I watch, as well as hunters input.
Morning hunts are fading fast, so will be mostly evening hunts coming up. We dont have any thickets or bedding areas to hunt, so not many deer moving after light, most already in their beds.
To me, seems like the season is dragging on now. Maybe the late start and now cold and snow? Maybe scoring early, with less anticipation going forward?
I'll still try for my last bonus tag, and then mz tag. Still looking for a buck for Luke. He can shoot my mz's thus year, so sure he will want to keep trying.
I have my local FWA to hit for late mz too, so that always brings some fun with new scenery.

It was bitter cold this morning. Checked weather at home and it was 1 above. I stayed sitting until 9:30, my hands couldn’t take the cold no more, thought they were going to freeze off while I gutted the doe.😂

I get cold pretty easy, people ask how I can stay out hunting but can't walk across the parking lot without acting like my limbs are going to fall off. I tell them when I go hunting I dress for the occasion. It is interesting to see how well a good base layer and some good choices of other layers helps keep the heat in. The anticipation of a shot at a deer helps keep me on stand too

I also feel like it's dragging on for some reason. Best I could figure was a combo of getting a buck during archery and the later dates for gun season.

I have two camera's out, one at home and one at my brother's farm. The whole month of November I had one deer picture and video of a older day time buck. Nice 10 point 3.5 year old at 10:33 am on the 15th at home. All other 3.5 or older all at night. I didn't get one video of a chase or see one hunting. One different strange year for me.

Back in the stand, wind is almost completely opposite of what it was this morning. Old permission that I have, someone must have needed my old stand more than I. Sitting on the ground.

Out for quick, rare work day evening hunt. Sitting over my picked cornfield with bedding on both sides, only the second gun hunt from this stand, they should be on their feet. Good luck and shoot straight!
