Small buck came through about 3:30, doe with twins just before dark but she got my wind before I could get a shot off. Tomorrow is going to be a cold sit.

EDIT: The woods must be getting pretty old. New blow-down found during turkey season this spring. Another found during my annual squirrel hunt early in season. Several more found first day of firearm's. Most all of them are half or whole tops of hickory trees. That woods I have deemed as not safe during higher winds!!

Just got to my spot, pretty windy today. The cows were all up and moving on the way here, so hopefully the deer are up too.

Out in Ohio for their gun opener. Conditions are brutal. 34 degrees with a stiff 18mph wind.

If it wasnt for a park hunt, snow on the ground, and an area that had good sign, I wouldnt have stayed as long as we did. Good luck.

They do look alike. LOL! They’re in the same class of ungulates so if one feels like eating, they usually all feel like eating. (I might be wrong but it sounds good to me) Didn’t see anything though. Started hearing coyotes at about 1700 so I bailed out. Got to my truck, stripped off all my snivel gear, and went to start my truck and only got a metallic ping. Starter. I replaced the starter on my 2015 Ram 1500 at 38k miles and it appears I’ll have to replace it again at 140k miles. I spent about 45 minutes under the truck trying to get something to the solenoid. Finally hit it just right and the truck started. My wife was late for work coming to get me and she had to turn around half way. Think she’s more mad that it finally started than if she had picked me up. At least now I get to fix it in the driveway and not in front of the DNR shack in the middle of nowhere 45 minutes away.

Agree! Driveway is better! Changed one in a school parking lot once. Changed an alternator in someone's yard next to their driveway once.

I changed an alternator on a Honda civic on the side of I70 next to Emerson Avenue. That was a real pain. I wish my cars and trucks broke down in the summer, but nope! Always in the cold.

Anyone on here ever seen a deer with black spots, almost like a piebald but black markings instead of white?? I had a doe step out into the cut corn tonight and she was spotted like that. I was googling it and saw some melanistic deer and she was very similar. Really dark coat with no white on her other than her tail. Was pretty cool to see. It was at our farm in Switzerland County.
