Congrats to all the successful hunters! Some of those bucks are really nice ones!
Just a quick recap of the weekend - it has been long and tomorrow will be another long day I fear.
Saturday I sat in a stand near the edge of the property. I heard grunts as soon as I got in the stand on the property that I don't have permission to hunt on, and all morning long I saw small bucks half heartedly chasing does, and does and yearlings walking by. That morning I saw maybe 10-12 deer, all between 20-60 yards but all were on the property that I don't have permission. So they all got a pass. That evening I moved to a different stand and had a mature doe and yearling appear at 230 yds and slowly walk closer. When she stood still looking my direction @ 105 yds I put the cross hairs on the white throat patch and squeezed. At the recoil, more deer that I didn't see jumped and ran about 50 feet then started to browse. I couldn't see the deer that I shot at and was wondering if I missed, but the shot felt good. A 4 and 6 point was looking at where she was standing, and they both walked to within 10-15 feet did a little head bob and walked back about 40 yards. They did that a few times and finally walked off after legal shooting time.
I got down and checked, she was laying right where she was standing - she just went straight down.
This morning I had a spike walk almost under the stand and a nice 8 basically trot across the field and that is all except for a bunch of squirrels.
This evening I get to the ladder stand around 3:30 and before I sit down I hear and see an ATV drive by at the other edge of the property. I call the landowner and ask if any one else has permission to be here, he says no, but he would make a call to another neighbor to see if it was them.
A number of deer come out into the field about 150 yds away, and after watching them for 20 minutes it seems that they aren't going to get any closer. I look at all the deer, pick out the biggest doe and time her eating habits. Nest time she puts her head down I settle the crosshairs between the ears and squeeze. She drops and doesn't twitch. The other deer take an hour to get out of the field and I finally can get down from the stand.
To make a long story shorter (and I really don't know how it will turn out) it seems that someone drove a car into the neighbors woods and when asked what he was doing he said he was going back to get a deer that he shot. I don't know the particulars but it seems that they shot a deer right before I got on the property and supposedly it ran onto the property that I have permission to hunt on. OR it was shot on this property illegally and they dragged it off the property. I don't know but I will be looking in that area in the morning. I was told that it was a big bodied 6 point. I called the absentee landowner and he drove out and is spending the night. I will meet with him in the morning and we will determine if the CO needs to be called or not. The neighbors kid that helped the person with the deer won't get home from school until 3pm. In the meantime I will look in the area and try to determine what happened. Needless to say the landowner is NOT a happy camper.

Just got set up in my ladder stand on the west side of the property. Good east wind this morning to give me noise cover. Had a doe on camera 10 minutes ago, 150 yards to my east and can hear something walking around right now. We’ll see what the morning brings.

Up in a stand that have had decent luck in the past. Wind is good for it but man it’s windy. Had 2 shooters on camera over the night. One at 5:45 this morning. Hoping they stick around.

Congrats! Sounds like a lot of work. I have vowed to never shoot more than one again. If you are butchering them yourself that is a lot of work. I can only handle one at a time.

Fixing to head out to Brookville. Figured the crowd during the week will be lower. My spots here in Ohio are dead.

Last year, I shot my buck on a Friday and then that following Monday, shot 3 does at a state park reduction hunt. Processed all 4 deer in 2 evenings. I originally was going to take 2 to a processor but they couldn’t get them in for a week, so I just gritted my teeth and got it done. Wasn’t really that bad once I got it in my head to get it done.

Season has gone as planned and hoped, successful. Hunt hard all weekend, and into the week if needed, then take some time off to get "cuttin deers". I got to sleep in today and rest up, very much needed. Back in the woods Wed morning with one bonus tag left to fill for me, and buck and a doe tag for Luke.
Good luck men!

The farmer in the reduction zone called, he wants me to get my butt out there when the storm passes. He put in a new grain bin and put gravel over an acre of ground. If it is where I think it is, I can cover a LOT of the edge of the woods with the long range rifle from the shooting bench on the gravel area. That is if the wind cooperates.
