Just sat here and listened to the neighbor call those two birds in and kill one. I didn’t go any closer for that reason. Kinda neat listening to it all unfold from a couple hundred yards away.

My Hoosier bloodline would be disappointed. It’s 51 here and I’m cold 😂 For the first time maybe ever in my turkey career I dressed warm enough not to be cold opening day 😂.

He was gobbling good on the roost and ended up pitching down on the other side of the valley. Two hens pitched down right in front of me and fed around the decoys. He eventually made his way over here to about 55-60yds. away and I decided not to try it. He followed the hens down the field and ended up getting shot at by another hunter that the landowner’s son gave permission to. Thankfully he missed him, but he definitely boogered things up for a while. I tracked the young man down and talked to him. He said he didn’t know anyone was back here, but he literally walked right beside my fourwheeler on the way to his spot!! 😡😡 It’s not going as planned, but I’ll keep at it!!

I’m here at Crosley. Got in before dark and just had 3 doe walk within bow range, but I haven’t heard a single gobble today.

Great morning ….but extremely quiet. Haven’t heard any gobbling at all. I heard one shot that sounded like it about a 1/4 mile east of us.

This is only my third year hunting turkey. I got in early and got in tight near two separate roosts. They were talking like crazy when I arrived still dark, 5:45. Shot at 6:31, I guess a 63-year-old can still have their first’s. 23 lbs. Congrats!

Big Tom with short beard is 60 yds to my left. Had eyes on him for over 2 hours. He’s slow methodical and smart. I think he’s an older bird. Couldn’t get him closer than 85 yds. He was unsure of my dekes……don’t blame him, he lost a partner Saturday because of those dekes.

After some coyote and deer disturbance, a tom fired off right over top of my blind! There were 3 different toms gobbling and a few hens yelping and cutting from the limb. I heard all the hens cackle as they flew down. The tom above gobbled three times and pitched down right in front of me. He barely had time to stretch his wings before he was laid out flat. I thought for sure he was going to pitch out behind me as he had a lot of time to watch my decoys not moving. I have him quartered up and in the freezer. Not a single pellet in any of the meat.

Unfortunately no I did not. There were only 2 open spots. I had a contingency plan in place to hunt another public land that is open hunting. Not a whole lot of birds there but it's hunting nonetheless. Got there and 3 vehicles in the parking lot changed my mind. Just wasn't worth the risk to me. I'm pretty disappointed but those are the breaks of being a public land hunter. I'll try again tomorrow morning and hope for the best. Dang Wes that sucks! It should ease up the longer we get into the season. Dont forget Winimac, and closer yet Galena Wetlands. I lost my Ace in the Hole property for now. Still got a decent place, but 40min drive so weekdays are tough. Sorry to hear about losing property, I know how that goes. The other place I went this morning was Fishlake. Last year no one else was there on opening day so I figured I'd be good to go out there. As far as Galena goes I haven't been out there in some time and I really don't care for that property. Is Winimac open hunting? I've never been there and I believe it's around an hour or slightly more of a drive. I've considered Menominee I believe it's called in Plymouth but haven't had a chance to get out there either. I have 4 more days this week so I'll keep trying Kingsbury and may eventually just try Fishlake if I absolutely have to.
