I moved spots towards where birds usually roost. Set up, called and not five minutes passed and a coyote comes out of the woods, into the pipeline, and stalking the decoys. He won’t be doing that any more. Always willing to take out one of those critter gitters. Outstanding!

It didn't take my buddy long. He struck a bird immediately and had him down an hour later. Gobbled and strutted the whole way through the woods he said.

Never heard or saw a single thing this evening. Back at it in the morning. Hoping something is at least talking. If not I’ll probably quit somewhat early and work outside at the house. About over this turkey hunting stuff.

Went straight to the blind for the first time this season. Have a few gobbling around me. Not gonna go chase them just yet. Wait a couple hours and see what happens.

All quiet this morning except for crows calling. Not even a shock gobble.

Well after a 3 year drought, finally got a longbeard. Nice one too. I gotta get him to the truck. Post later.

Zilch! Didn't even hear one this morning. Here's my setup. Moved the decoy to within 25 yards of the field edge hoping they might come by again and be willing to come a shorter distance to check out the feeding hen. Used a blind today since there weren't any bigger trees where I wanted to sit.

Well after a 3 year drought, finally got a longbeard. Nice one too. I gotta get him to the truck. Post later. I've only been able to hunt a couple times. Got to property about 7 central and spent several hours walking and calling. Eventually I set up watching a knee high grass or better field calling sporadically. I was there maybe 45 minutes and I realized there were two tom heads about 100 yards out looking at me. They had pegged me unfortunately. I assume they were coming to my call and slipped in on me in a dip in the field. I got one to gobble once at a call, but they wouldn't come closer, but best I could tell they were still there, at least a while. Eventually I couldn't stand not knowing and made a beeline for where I thought they were. The grass hid me until I got to the little rise between us and I saw him in a strut about 35 yards away. I walloped him and two other birds took off. One was a jake, not sure about the other. That was a surprise as I thought there were only two birds. Took some pics with the landowner and got him on ice now. 23#, beard was 11.5", spurs were 1.25". The fan is in good shape so I'm planning to try making my first fan mount.

I stuck around until noon. Only bird in range was a hen. Was hoping she’d pull one of the gobblers in. Had birds all around me throughout the morning. At least four different birds gobbling in a circle, but none would close the distance. Of course I tried to make a move on two and as soon as I got to where I wanted to setup they had moved to the west side of the property. I did walk the property before leaving and bumped a hen off her nest. I never saw her until she took off and I was only about five feet away. Scared the heck outta me. Still a great day in the woods and always better than a day at work.
