My grandson and I are talking about our plans for the upcoming turkey season. I need to go through my current stock just to see what I have available. We've watched a ton of videos in the past few years on TSS. I'm sure it's great stuff but I can't come to grips with forking out some major greenbacks just to reach out another 10 yards or so. I guess I'll start by checking my current inventory left over from years past and we'll decide from there.

I have been using hand loader TSS for years. I have dropped them stone cold dead at 68 yards

I’ve got two Nitro 4 X 5 X 7s.
Five MagBlends - 5 X 6 X 7s
I do have 5 FoxTrot 8 X 9s TSS ordered.
All that is probably a lifetime supply for me. But I do share with my grandson.

I’ll stick with my longbeard XRs until I decide otherwise. I’m with you in that it’s hard to fork out the money for tss. I’m sure it’s amazing, but I like to get turkeys up close. If they hang up at 60 yards and don’t come in then they win that battle, but I’m still in the war. Don’t think I’ve ever shot one past 35 yards if that.

It IS the cats meow.
I can say that because I bought mine on sale.
At current prices, I'd be super happy with the Longbeard XR. Zero complaints from me or the gobblers.

Just like finding a slug load that shoots will in the slug guns. The expense is finding the one that patterns the best in your gun/choke combo. Then bite the bullet and buy a few boxes of it. I still have 12 ga SST slugs for the Tar-Hunt slug gun that I will probably never use again. I can't tell you how many boxes I bought to find something that was accurate in it.

If you want to load your own a guy sells everything you need to load your own except the powder. Hal Abbott is his name, he is kind of the God Father of TSS

I just can’t spend that much on 5 shells. Crazy. I bought the components to reload my own. I paid $8+ a shell for Nitros back maybe ten years ago. These are few dollars more but considering inflation not too far out of line. Considering I “might” only use one a season it’s cheap compared to my other costs of turkey hunting. The TSS will be “pocket ammo” if that old gobbler hangs up at 60 yards. Slip out the MagBlend from the chamber and slip in the TSS. BOOM!

I was in BassPro the other day and they had boxes of Federal Premium Heavyweight TSS 12 gauge shells for the low, low price of $85.59 (including tax). That works out to $17.11 per round.

I’m out on a job now and hopefully I’ll have a chance to finalize my current inventory if I make it home tonight. I know that I have at least 5 rounds of Hevi, #5’s. That has been my go to round for turkey in the past 15 years or so. The farthest I’ve taken a gobbler with my 12 gauge Mossberg 500A setup/670XX factory choke was 63 yards in 2011. I’ve taken 2 birds at 52 and 55 yards. I’ve never taken a gobbler under 33 yards with that combo. Any other data, I don’t recall off the top of my head. Would I need a special choke for TSS?

Get Mr. Gobbler’s head/neck in that Diamond and he is meat in the pan! Knock on wood - I’ve never missed or wounded a gobbler with this set up. I’ve killed them from 12 yards to 52 yards..

Unfortunately Simmons sold out and Burris quit making this scope. .
