Why are we even talking OBR? was it mentioned in the survey? I don't recall seeing it but only skimmed the questions. It has been 20ish years...a lot of hunters have never experienced the old rule and I doubt they ever will. We are discussing it because I was curious what evéryones position on it is. So I made up this poll so we could all see. Just fer something to keep us busy in the off season. Is it a bad subject? Just wondering if I missed why it is being discussed. Fine by me if we want to scrape off old scabs just to watch it bleed. My opinion is this is a pointless and self defeating topic. But as long as the discussion stays civil I could care less.

I remember Brad wasn’t he from Jackson County Seymour area? Yes. Avid hunter, outdoor writer and a offical scorer for P&Y and HBB (Maybe B&C). Really good guy. Brad and Carol send us a Christmas card every year, along with their family newsletter. He wrote an article for Whitetail News that began with the story of my 2006 buck kill. It's been a number of years since we've seen them in person. I still pass their house once in a great while, but am always in too big of a hurry to stop. Very genuine people.

I believe his residence was Brownstown actually .

Wrote lots of articles for major deer hunting publications, has a few books as well. 2 of my high school coaches are from Freetown, and Browstown and grew up with him. I met him few times through them and scoring deer. I would guess early 70's.

"Scrapping off old scabs and watching it bleed" seems like you might have an opinion... That's inviting negativity.

For the guys that were here back then.
Would you say this site was pro OBR or anti OBR back then.
I say this site had most of the antiOBR guys. And now I see from this poll that here on this site the majority is proOBR.
Am I seeing this in the wrong light???
Looks like almost a 3 to 1 in favor of it now.

Just like seatbelts...there were more opposed to it when the rule changed but with time it becomes the norm and people move on. What does it prove? That after 20 years of hunting under a specific rule, opinions have changed in some hunters and not in others? OK, you nailed it then

I was a supporter in 1992 and am today. This certificate hangs in my trophy room still today , a group that was formed to support and lobby for , overall health of Indiana's deer herd. Joined HI page around 2004 I believe.

The OBR has never had a negative effect on the Deer herd… One thing it has done is make folks think before they shoot. That’s never bad!

This is the same conversation we will be having 20 years after the gun season gets shortened. And it will be a carbon copy of what's said today...

Most did not want OBR in the begining. It's fact. Now most do want it. It's fact. See what happens when your forced into trying what the heads of the DNR think is appropriate.

Only thing that is constant is change. I don't see dnr restricting gun season though.

People have just been brainwashed into believing that OBR grows big bucks. That, and people like to limit others to one buck in hopes that it increases their chances to get one too. I'll agree that shortening the gun season would probably result in older class bucks. Or we could just see an increase in crossbow usage to offset it. Lol!
