-2 in Grovertown. I had to scoop some dead Bluegills from the overflow on the holding tank - it was starting to overflow. The excess water is flowing to the pond and keeping the pond open.

14 degrees here this afternoon. I'm outside soaking in 100 degree water. The naked dash back to the house should be interesting.

It never got out of the negatives today here. It's already -8deg now, showing low to be -11.
We were out a few times. Pretty tough in the wind.
You really gotta feel for the guys stuck out working in this weather. Been there plenty, and it's just brutal. The average Joe worker with an inside job could never even imagine what it's like.

Lightweights. Thermometer here in Plymouth is saying -12.5°F now. LOL
A customer of mine that has geothermal heat and is in the woods protected from the wind had his propane fired water heater that is used as a backup system fire up last night. When they got up this morning it was 68°F in the barndominium. (2nd story of a large pole barn where the whole thing is heated with tubes in the floor). He's got a wood burning stove upstairs and he fired that up too. At 3pm upstairs was 80°F and it took enough of a load off the goethermal that it could heat the rest of the place back up to 72°F. He's burning Oak that he split in 2015. (stored inside)

In 1987 it was a very cold 2nd Saturday of gun season. I had my Remington 1100 shotgun ready to head out. Out of the group of 7 I was the only one getting up two hours before sunrise. I looked at the temperature and it a balmy 3 degrees. I put on all of my hunting cloths and headed out to the widow maker stand that was way back on the 183 acre farm. As I walked to the stand I thought I was crazy stomping through the frozen snow. Crunch crunch crunch. I thought every deer in the woods could hear me. But being young 26 years old nothing was going to stop me. I finally made it to the stand and up the tree. The good news it was calm as can be. I sat there and sat there trying to stay warm. By 9am it was a warm 5 degrees. A lot better. Up to that time I saw nothing. Dead quite. It got to around 9:15am and I heard steps across the neighbors big hill. I could hear something walking, but the hill blocked it. The walking echoed through the woods. Louder and louder I could hear it. Then at the top of the hill about 200 yards out I could see the deer walking straight toward me. A good 30 minutes the deer got to 150 yards and yes, a good buck. Looks like a 10 pointer, but it was cold and hard to see. After another half hour the buck finally made to to my brother's property line and the buck crossed over the fence. My heart was pounding and I was so fired up I was getting hot. The buck was walking so slow, stopping and looking. I unzipped and took off my heavy coat. After another 15 minutes the deer is in range and closing. I get ready and perfect the buck turns broadside for a perfect shot. The buck was 15 yards directly in front and broadside. I let the slug go and perfect shot. Straight through both lungs. By then, I was shaking and only had my shirt on. By 11:30am it was a balmy 8 degrees. I gutted the buck and had to break the ice to clean my hands. The creek was frozen. The cold water had no effect. I put my coat back on and hiked back to the house. I told my story and no one believed me. Then I took my coat off and showed them my bloody sleeves and shirt. Then they got fired up. That was the biggest buck to date after all the years hunting. They all bundled up and all 7 of us headed to the widow maker. That was the 7th buck taken from that stand that hunting season and the largest one. That is how that stand got it's name. Hunting in 3 degrees paid off. Since it was so cold and a good buck I will never forget that hunting adventure. Now being 62 I think back and think I must have been crazy hunting in single digit temperatures.

4 this morning at 7:40z
The furnace is not keeping up.
I let the insert go out over night.
I’ll be firing it back up after breakfast and lunch in town today. It’s momma’s 84th birthday and we are meeting one of our granddaughters and her three kiddoes for doughnuts and later meeting our youngest daughter and her husband for lunch. It’s a good day!

Still -9 for us. School was out for the holiday anyway today. Good thing as it would have been cancelled otherwise.

-16 this morning, -4 high for the day. Next week looks amazing, they are calling for mid 30's. I'll be pounding the ice!!! Still only a couple inches of snow on the lake's, 14-16 inches of ice, will be able to cover a lot of water out of the truck!!

Waiting for a contractor to show up here near Mexico, MO. Showing -8 here. Just got a Teams memo from my manager and safety champion: “Guys, with these temps and wind chills, stay home!” Ugh, little late for that memo fellas!

-8°F now, it was -14.2°F on the thermometer right before sunrise. The pellet stove insert kept the house @ 70°F overnight and now it's 72 inside with the regular furnace kicking in. The pellet insert burned 40# of pellets in 17 hours, a wee bit more than the approximately 30#-40# it burns every 24 hours normally. The thing that really helped is that the wind died down to 5 mph or so. The snowdrifts here are so hard that the dogs can run across the top of them and not break through.

Near 0 this morning and inside my barn was 30. Coldest yet. Last year 32 was the coldest. I drove my truck this morning. I have two stainless steel tables to pickup at lunch. Both auction tables for honey room. One 2x2 and other 2x3. That warehouse will be cold.
