Wow, you southern guys are way too spoiled. Average 11" snow. Man, pretty sure South Bend area is/was 70 some inches average iirc? I live just west in the lake effect bullseye and we have gotten twice as much as SB several times. Our storms start with "feet" of snow plus big drifts in the flat lands.

The wind and blowing snow is the worst part here. People dont slow down or use any caution, and really pay the price. My wife's kin live in eastern KY and West WV. One iota of snow and they are closed down like hermits. We snicker when we hear that. Lots of houses on hills here, and steep driveways. When we are iced up, lots of folks stay parked at the bottom! I've seen plenty of slide offs, mostly by the preppies and yuppies in Beemers and fancy cars. Lol. A neighbor got stuck years ago, and didnt even know how to use 4wd! Another neighbor didnt even thank me when I yanked him out from sliding off his driveway. Next time he will be calling a wrecker! So, we get plenty of fun.

If we get 4” or so of snow we just about can’t get home due to the big hills in all surrounding roads. Last year the wife slid backwards down the biggest one right by our road two times before calling and I had to walk a good 1/2 mile to meet her and barely made it home going a back way. My big excursion in 4 wheel drive even struggled due to steepness and how long the hill is. Hoping to get enough this time to at least get the tractor out and plow our road.

One thing I learned is to swap to actual snow tires for the winter on all 4 corners. I run Blizaks. A HUGE difference from the so called "all season" tires.

One thing I've learned over the years, and the last couple living here in Montana especially, when it snows you need to get that crap off the driveway as quick as you can. I'm sure folks laugh at me, but if we get a couple inches of snow I'm on the quad plowing. If I need to I'm on the tractor. If you get rid of the snow before you drive on it and pack it down you're golden. I do that, and in a day or so my driveway is bare, dry dirt, while the neighbors have packed snow and ice. We got a couple inches late yesterday, and I'll hop on the quad today and push it out of the way. Looking at 6+ inches between Friday and Saturday, then Sun/Mon high temps of 1-3 and lows around -15, so I'll be keeping that crap off all weekend. I actually enjoy plowing, so I don't mind so much. Earlier this winter I took the tractor and pushed all the snow 50+ feet away on both sides of my driveway and made 3-4 foot windrows...have not had one drift since. Of course being retired I do have the luxury of time to do all that, so I take advantage of it. I also hate snow, so when I plow it's kinda like me getting to "kill" it.

You should sell all snow removal equipment with house...not needed here.Ha
