New legislation is being proposed for stronger background checks prior to purchasing a gun, to curb mass shootings. Yawn.... Bad guys are going to have guns, and round and round we go. At the same time democrats will push for more liberal abortion "rights" so we can kill unborn babies. I'm not a fan of most politicians I just side with the ones that tend to vote the way I want them to, but democrats in general are the most confusing to me.

WASHINGTON — Senate negotiators announced on Sunday they had agreed on a bipartisan outline for a narrow set of gun safety measures with sufficient support to move through the evenly divided chamber, a significant step toward ending a yearslong congressional impasse on the issue. The plan, endorsed by 10 Republicans and 10 Democrats, would include funding for mental health resources, boosting school safety and grants for states to implement so-called red flag laws that allow authorities to confiscate guns from people deemed to be dangerous. It would also expand the nation’s background check system to include juvenile records for any prospective gun buyer under the age of 21. Most notably, it includes a provision to address what is known as the “boyfriend loophole,” which would prohibit dating partners — not just spouses — from owning guns if they had been convicted of domestic violence. The framework says that convicted domestic violence abusers and individuals subject to domestic violence restraining orders would be included in criminal background checks. ift.tt/W4sG12t

Personally…. I am ok with background checks as long as it doesn’t make a longer delay in the purchase.
I have nothing to hide…..

Guns vs abortion, improved economy vs better welfare. High gas prices vs environmental issues. Makes you wonder how in the world we got to this point. I can honestly say I know my county clerk after that I don't feel like I truly know any elected official, their true character and how they REALLY feel about a particular subject. They may vote one way just to get votes in November but may not give 2 "butts" if a law doesn't go the way they voted. They just want to get the votes in November to save their jobs. On the otherhand some may be fiercely passionate about something and we may not truly know that because of all the other garbage that happens in Indianapolis or Washington. I just wish sometimes we could start over but even with that it sounds scary.

Will it actually become law? Time will tell... Why wouldn’t it? You got any negative points on it?

We have legislated and regulated ourselves into oblivion and let our freedoms slip away. At the fed, state and county levels. I recently had a run in with the peoples republic of monroe county over someone's property rights and they are just completely and openly communist. And they know this individual has the money to sue them and would win because they are superceded by state laws with regards to their "ordinance" but they dont care.

I can see this butting heads with a hodge podge of state laws that protect minor’s records and medical records.
Red flag laws to me are “guilty until YOU prove your own innocence”. IOW - no due process.
With this - Now ex-girl friend can have your guns taken away.

Notice that the media has really picked up on the Democrat “gun safety” in place of “gun control”?

Restraining Orders work the same way … but you get your day in court same with Red Flag laws IIRC. www.indystar.com/story/news/crime/2021/05/14/indiana-guns-red-flag-law/5075163001/

If I want to sell a gun to a buddy, I really don't want to have to drag it to a FFL to have him fill out paperwork, pay the FFL and call it in for the transfer. If criminals don't have to do it, why do we?

If criminals don't have to do it, why do we? Are background checks for private sales part of the bill? I read the synopsis of what was in the bill on the internet and heard the blurbs on the news but I hadn't heard/read that this was part of the package. I read/heard that there were things in the proposed bill that were "agreed on principle" but don't be surprised if all h*ll breaks loose and things end up looking far differently when it's actually voted on (if it gets that far).

As I stated in my other post, I've not heard that this was part of the bill, and I would be surprised if it ends up in what is actually voted on.
But if it is, and if it becomes law, I'll follow the law.

^^^^ I don't know. They just said "expanded background checks". Not much is being published. I guess what we don't know won't hurt us?

I guess what we don't know won't hurt us? I don't know that I would say that. I think it's more of a "wait and see" deal IMO.
