Alright, i'm asking for advice from some of the older and wiser fellas here, and maybe we'll hear some amusing stories to boot. Have you ever bought a new (or used!) Gun and had to sneak it into the house at risk of exasperating your long suffering significant other? I'm facing this conundrum soon...not sure if i should go with "it was a great deal" or "it's really for you, honey, i bought it with you in mind, its the perfect size/caliber/gauge..." Joe buckmaster

Not old and (definitely) not wise but my advice is to just be honest.
One phrase I've learned to be painfully accurate are the wise words of Han Solo:
"Women always figure out the truth, ALWAYS."

Nope. When I was married, that wasn't a problem and now that I'm single the only female here really doesn't care, as long as she gets to go along once in a while (4-legged female).

Honesty is always the best policy but as far as justification goes, "It was a great deal, I couldn't pass it up" does well for me, but I rarely buy guns anymore. You need to read "Gunrunning Past Your Wife" by Pat Mcmanus. It may not be the greatest advice but it is funny! Good luck! What gun did you buy?

Why not discuss with your spouse prior to the purchase?

Never been an issue here. I just tell her I’m buying or bought a gun and she’s good with it. I’d say being up front would save you some hassles down the road.

“Honey, look at the deal I got on this gun for (son, daughter, grandson, granddaughter)” Is an option. If you don’t mind the eye roll from Mama! 🙄

Just mention the great sale you got. Saved a lot of money. Great deal that you couldn't pass up. Once in a lifetime deal.
My wife is not a big fan of guns, but she knew when we got married I hunted and had guns. So as long as I don't go crazy buying every gun out there all is good. I like to talk about a few months ahead of time that I'm looking at this gun or bow for hunting. Set the line out and then set the hook when it's time.
Just look at all the honeybee stuff I just bought. She knows I like to do stuff and lets me roll with it. I guess it goes two ways for us. I support her purchases and vice-a-versa.

We are good in our house. As long as the bill's are paid, food on the table, clothes on our back, and wifey is happy, it's all good. Luckily my wife came from a hunting family, so guns are normal and natural and a way of life. Guns dont lose value, so it's also an investment and like money in the bank. When you give your wife your gun safe code, you have nothing to hide. 😉

We have all of our finances jointly with the exception of my "hunting fund". My hunting fund is replenished by working on friends' guns and mowing a yard other than mine and my older neighbor (I don't charge her).
So when I do buy a gun (not very often) or reloading supplies or ... then I just pay for it out of my "hunting fund" and my wife doesn't say anything about it. However, I do let her know what I am planning to buy ahead of time anyway.

When ever I bought a new gun I usually picked up a new sweeper, crockpot whatever I thought she might need around the house. It worked with all nine of my wives.

My wife gave me the "Do you NEED another gun?" I did 2 things..... 1) I pointed out that SHE was the one who encouraged me to get a job at Scheels and that I TOLD her at the time most of the income from that would be going into guns and then I went Socratic and answered her question with one of my own... 2)How many shoe/bags/clothes do you have AND how many of then still have tags on them? Strangely enough she didn't utter another word. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

How many pairs of shoes does she have? And purses.. My wife has two under the bed totes full of 👜 purses. That doesn't work for me. My wife doesn't have a single purse or fancy shoes or use any makeup. Only the rotation of normal wear shoes. She's a beautiful, natural, country girl who has her own guns! Brownie points! Lol.
