I'm looking for either a night vision attachment for my scope or a light to mount on the top of it.
Any suggestions on either one? I don't want to break the bank but, I've found out hard difficult it really is to hold a spotlight while trying to get on target with my Remington BDL with a heavy varmint barrel.

gen......You might want to check out the ATN night vision scopes, my yote hunting partner purchased one a couple yrs ago. Im now saving to get one Its a little salty but the features are worth it. Night vision, daytime use of the scope as well , built in range finder , takes video. I can get the exact M/N of it .

You could look into the Sightmark Wraith. It's a lower end digital NV scope. I bought one last year and used it a few times and have been pretty pleased with it. Battery life isn't that great but rechargeable batteries will help keep the cost down. Off topic but what's the caliber on the BDL? I have one with the laminate stock in .243.

I bought a refurbished ATN 4K PRO 3 X 14. I would say its worth spending the money on the night vision instead of the light. I think you can get the older ATN X sight for $399 refurbished. Here is a photo of my setup with the the stock illuminator.

Short LIGHT rifle is what you want for 100 yard shooting. I have found that once you get everything on the gun its big and bulky.

I have both Sightmark night vision and Sniper Hogg red light mounted on AR's for coyote hunting. I would say 100% red light. Remember the night vision is digital, so when ever you move the scope the scope has to catch up and refocus. There is a short blurry period if the scope is moved too much. Other thing is even with an IR intensifier, the night vision is good for maybe 150-200 yards. At that range it is not a real good picture.
The Snipper Hogg red light will eye shine animals out to 700-800 yards. I use one for scanning and one mounted on the gun. The light can be zoomed in and out. At 400 yards zoomed in with my Nikon Monarch 5 6-20x50 scope it is clear as day. The 2 light hunting package is about $350.
I also use the red light to scan field before I walk across them while deer hunting. Lets me know if deer are already there and I don't bust them out of the fields.

The issue I have is that I just put a $400 Leupold scope on this rifle. Lol! I'm having trouble with the idea of taking it off so soon. I may just get that scope for one of my AR's since none of them have an optic. Besides, if I run into a few coyotes then I will have the ability to empty an entire mag if I need/want to. Lol!!! (Just kidding)

Dont want an argument, just going by experience. A green orion mount on light is better than a cheap night vision scope. I bought a 500.00 night vision scope & it was a joke. Ive used expensive thermal scopes & they were awesome! Really got to pay up or just use a green light. Ive used the light several times to take hogs down south.

xizang, never thought about that type of red light to spot for deer walking in, where did you get yours at? I may have to invest in one.

I purchased from Sniper Hog, but can get on Amazon as well. Price, I believe, is about the same. They have a new light that eye shines over 1000 yards. There are other varmint hunting lights out there. I have not used them, but have been really happy with the Sniper Hog set I purchased.

I use an ATN Xsight 4k with a Sniper Hog Light...for the money, it's the best way to go, imo. I have had great success with it. I typically hunt about 20 or so night per year, and what i have found to be the most useful, is to have a thermal scanner in addition to the night vision scope. This lets you scan your calling area, looking for movement, without swinging your gun around. Once you see something on the scanner, then you can swing your gun to ID the animal.

A digital NV optic like the ATN or Sightmark would be your cheapest route by far (excluding a simple light.) Nothing else under $1000 compares.
Due to the possibility of civil unrest (with the added plus of coyote hunting), I purchased a milspec white phosphor PVS-14 nightvision optic, an IR laser/illuminator, and a 640 resolution thermal riflescope this year. I'm into it for five figures, and it took me months of lead time. And I'd still like to add a handheld thermal scanner to the stable. LOL!

I love my hand held scanner. Pulsar quantum xq38 is the one I have, the newer ones are smaller. Axion and helion are the newer models.

I still need to buy rings for it, and it'll reside on a Remington 700 .22-250. I'll definitely need a scanner to avoid having to point that heavy gun at everything I look it. As for my nightvision, it is mounted on a helmet, and I can either aim passively with a rifle-mounted red dot optic, or "shoot from the hip" with the IR laser.

I so want a pulsar thermal scope. Saving for one. It will go on something light for sure. I don't want a heavy gun to swing around. My NV is on a t-bolt, not light but not heavy and it gets the job done.
