Back at it! 34 degrees and lightly snowing/frozen rain. The walk back here was super stealthy today due to the higher recent temperatures and the rain. I moved my chair about 100 yards toward where I saw a buck stroll through last hunt. Due to the rainish stuff coming down, I found a half fallen tree to sit under, but with the medium wind it’s kind of blowing sideways at me still lol birds are chirping, and I’m bundled up. In front of me is a ravine with a dried up creek running through, and behind me is a thicket I wouldn’t dare to walk through (unless you told me there were brand new hunting clothes in there, cuz I’d need them). I believe I’m going to sit here until 4, then make my way down to the cut corn field where I saw two deer feeding when I walked back to my truck a few nights ago. Hang in there. I checked my camera’s and last week had a few bucks pass through during daylight. Thanks! I haven’t got a daytime picture of deer in weeks, but I did see a buck Wednesday when I was out. I’m hopeful. I didn’t see a thing in the 6 hours I sat, except for another hunter on the bordering property. I went opposite his way and took the long way to the field. I may have spooked them going through the thicket (yes my overalls are torn up) 😂😒. I’ll be back out tomorrow.

At the one place that I have access to hunt the property owner doesn't want me to field dress the deer there on the property. His property, his rules. I'm OK with that. They are absentee landowners and I usually don't hunt there when they are out. The wife likes to walk the perimeter of the property a few times a day for exercise and it's not a set time that she walks. She does wear a hunter orange vest and hat when she walks during deer season.
Another property that I have permission to hunt, it's a "No buck" rule. I can shoot all the does I want.
The 2nd property, I'm the only non-family member that has permission to hunt. Last non-family member was 45 or more years ago and that left a very bad feeling about hunters in general. Seems that after the season they found a hole in the combine and a hole in a grain bin.........
So I am VERY careful and very specific on where I sit and what are the "no shot past this point" trees to ensure no bullets go anywhere near the buildings or equipment. Basically I set myself up to only shoot from 9:00-3:00 direction.

Only IF I can gain access though. If you present yourself well and knock the door of every decent looking property in the zone, you should be able to find somewhereeee to hunt. When I knock a door I know who owns it, and I ask them. If a spouse answers, I explain I’m a hunter and I was hoping THEY had a minute to talk about their property. Most will shoot you down. Some will say yes. Then use a feeder/salt mineral rocks/ etc to keep them happy with the area for the next 8 months, you should at least be in front of some deer. Maybe it would do you well to leave it as a deer sanctuary until gun season is over , if it’s a large property or there isn’t much pressure on the surrounding properties. You could feed there until 10 days before you are ready to hunt it. Thanks mister. I'll do some research on the OnX app and use that for my Intel on the zone and do some knocking on doors. It is out of my comfort zone as I'm not much of a face to face person, but I'll definitely give it a go when the season gets closer.

Thanks for the help, advice and tips. It's great to have other fellers who don't mind sharing. I've tried to get others to help me along my deer hunting career if you will and they just laugh and say " Figure it out on your own like we had to ". I wasn't raised to be that way and I feel that I'll never gain anything in life being that way. If I can help I will and if I'm busy I will stop to help anyway.
Y'all are just a few as to why I'm glad I'm a member on here.

[ If you wait til the season is closer, you hurt your chances! 1- someone else could get permission before you 2- you lose all scouting time , and doing it right before you hunt it isn’t really productive. 3- you won’t get to feed them 4- they’re more likely to say yes when it’s further away , not “ can I come over next month to shoot your deer?” 😂 5- they don’t expect hunters in March, so some won’t answer the door as bitter , not knowing why you’re there. Just my 2 cents. Let’s move this conversation to a different thread. I’ll start it now.

42 degrees and blue skies here! Wind is in my face and my back is to the woods. Sitting atop the ridge about 50’ above the field again. I have a few shooting lanes out to the field , but I may have to reposition to make a shot if they make it out there.
Whether I see anything or not, god has given us a beautiful day and I’m enjoying it in my happy place.

Little high intensity scouting/shed hunting today. Ended up finding a couple of tree stands, one a double set abandoned by the local video production crew. Found shesquatch in the second pic. Beautiful day in Parke!

Sitting at a different property today. I set a stand up here early last week and haven’t been back since. I’m in a 150 yard funnel between a big creek/road, and a corn field that’s been down a couple months.
I’m building a shoot house at each of my spots for next season (already got permission), and buying a battery heater because I hate the cold lol I would like to start offering “custom shoot houses” here in the coming year, so those will be my “model homes” to show people.

Beautiful pictures Freedomhunter! I will be out this Saturday in Ohio for my last time. I've notice the bucks are getting back in their bachelor groups and a nice 3 yr old has been cutting through around noon time most days. Just a short hunt from 9-10 am to 2 pm. It's been an off year for me. Mostly, I didn't set up per my standard and or put the effort in per my standard. Spent to much time working on my barn and my new hobby-business beekeeping. My wife was off beat during deer season and there was a few weekends that I stayed home for her. I didn't set up in Ohio like I normally do. I put my stands on my brothers place. Need another stand for Ohio for 20/21 hunting season.
I forgot to mention that I used to hunt the 1st weekend or day (Oct 1) and the last weekend. I'm trying to get back to that tradition. Since I hunt Indiana and Ohio that is Oct 1 or 1st weekend in February.

It’s looking like Friday will be my final hunt of the year I believe. It’ll be an all day hunt, and I’m hopeful to have the final day luck like michaelc did! For good luck, I believe I’m going to take my grandpas old New Haven 12 gauge with iron rifle sights. I killed my first deer with it this year, so maybe I’m meant to take my last deer of the year with it. I can reach most of what I can see in the woods with it (approx 75 yards ). Woody- thank you sir! I appreciate the kind words and positivity ! I also appreciate the work you put in here, and your willingness to help when I’ve asked!
