Finished my job today at 2, so here I am! Got to my usual area and realized HuntWise was completely wrong about wind, so I headed to a different area about a half mile away. I’m sitting gainer tree I call “the lazy boy”, because it’s roots come out around my shoulders and my 220 pound self is semi comfortable here. I’m atop a ridge , with a small (frozen ) creek in the bottoms below. I’ve only hunted here once before, but when we got our “big snow” 😂 I saw lots of sign here. I’m going to groom and rake a trail back to here next season, but currently it’s quite a bit of work to get back here semi quietly. Lots of birds and squirrels out and about. Best of luck to ya. Stay warm and be careful.

Didn’t see anything until the walk out. Jumped a buck on the way out, and at around 200 yards a finally thought to call at him. Sent a a couple doe bleets at him, and it stopped him dead in his tracks for 5 minutes. I only had a couple minutes of shooting light left, but unfortunately the light I had wasn’t enough and I couldn’t get focused on him. In the daylight that would have been a chip shot 😐
It was cool to see him respond to my call so well, and that gave me a little more confidence in this tube.
Also saw three does walking down the side of the road on my drive out lol
Sometimes they’re the most fragile mindsetted skittish creatures, and sometimes they just don’t care about anything lol blows my mind.
These were the first deer I’ve seen in weeks, so I’m happy with my time spent out.

Keep at it and I truly believe it will happen. I have my 🤞 are crossed for you.

Back at the lazy boy... but I brought a $10 camo chair to leave this time. The couple extra feet of height and comfort have already made me glad I brought one.
Two minutes after sitting down 16 turkeys came through.
35 degrees and sunny is a relief after some of my colder sits recently.
Here til dark.

Willy chopped a 2 inch tree down. No blood. Clean miss on a small 8 (I think).
Maybe next time 😐 next season there will shooting lanes cleared out there.
There were 2 does feeding in the cut cornfield the truck was parked at when I got out of the woods. Didn’t spook them, so I’m hoping to sit that edge in the next couple nights.

515 and our lab went to the backdoor growling. Had 8 does/fawns and a shed buck in the backyard. Buck hit the feeder for about 10 mins. Took my daughter out but couldn't get closer than 75 yards to them. She has until next Sunday to get one so shes planning on watching it every night until then.

Back at it! 34 degrees and lightly snowing/frozen rain.
The walk back here was super stealthy today due to the higher recent temperatures and the rain. I moved my chair about 100 yards toward where I saw a buck stroll through last hunt. Due to the rainish stuff coming down, I found a half fallen tree to sit under, but with the medium wind it’s kind of blowing sideways at me still lol birds are chirping, and I’m bundled up.
In front of me is a ravine with a dried up creek running through, and behind me is a thicket I wouldn’t dare to walk through (unless you told me there were brand new hunting clothes in there, cuz I’d need them). I believe I’m going to sit here until 4, then make my way down to the cut corn field where I saw two deer feeding when I walked back to my truck a few nights ago.

I've deleted all the new muzzleloader posts and it is back on topic.
I ALSO deleted some member's posts where they were just sniping at each other. I am a patient man, but on the other hand I'm getting older. I've got to a point where I don't put up with near as much BS as I used to.
Anyone wanting to be an EX-member? Keep it up and I'll help you achieve that goal.
A word to the wise should be sufficient.

Can I use my bundle license or do I need a reduction license to hunt reduction zones? 2 counties to the West is zoned reduction, I'm not ready to call it the End. You have to use reduction tags outside of normal seasons. And there is no public land labeled reduction(in the SW) so you'll want to secure private land before buying tags. Yes sir, I did some research and discovered that the Evansville area is the only reduction zone close to me and it is all private ground. Then if I gain access, it's a earn a buck deal and the tags are $24 each.

I checked my camera’s and last week had a few bucks pass through during daylight.

That is correct. Well worth the effort and $24 though! Only IF I can gain access though. If you present yourself well and knock the door of every decent looking property in the zone, you should be able to find somewhereeee to hunt. When I knock a door I know who owns it, and I ask them. If a spouse answers, I explain I’m a hunter and I was hoping THEY had a minute to talk about their property. Most will shoot you down. Some will say yes. Then use a feeder/salt mineral rocks/ etc to keep them happy with the area for the next 8 months, you should at least be in front of some deer. Maybe it would do you well to leave it as a deer sanctuary until gun season is over , if it’s a large property or there isn’t much pressure on the surrounding properties. You could feed there until 10 days before you are ready to hunt it.

Also, mentioning that you’re willing to take coyotes off their property as well doesn’t hurt 😏
