3 more for Team 6! Brings my total to 14 for the season so far. This CZ 457 is awesome. I’m loving it especially around 20-30 yards. Definitely got to go for head shots! After the 2 grays and then working on tree stands I sat a good while with no action. Got something to eat and came back to set up one more stand. As I was putting the cushion on I heard a squirrel just a barkin’ at me like crazy. I kept looking but I couldn’t see it. I finished my job and grabbed my rifle. I circled back behind the tree stand tree and just leaned against a big Tulip, surveying the treetops, trying to get a visual on the alarmist. Much to my surprise, there was a fox squirrel perched about 20 feet above the stand I just set up. The crazy thing is that once I got the scope on him, I realized that he was looking directly at me. It was almost a bit eerie! Gently squeezed the trigger and he fell and hit the side rail of the stand. Clean head shot. Never knew what hit him!

Went out after the rain and went one for two. Not sure how I missed the first one. Add another to team 1.

I've been leaving the squirrels alone in the yard for a couple years now. I like watching them and it's sort of like "in case of emergency break glass" kind of thing. This morning one got hit on the road. Makes me sort of want to rethink my strategy.

Man these dry leaves are making it tough to sneak up on anything! Still mark 1 more up for team 8

Add another 5 for Team 6. When I checked our shooting blinds a week or so ago there were lots of limbs (large and small) on the trails, so I went to clear them today. Abbie, my 13 year old, has decided she wants to give deer hunting another go and sprang that on me Saturday night. All were on the ground and I ended up hitting them all in the shoulders. When I would get on the squirrel it would move right as I was pulling the trigger. All older males at that. Gonna have to bake these! Productive morning!! Personal count is 48. Probably done now till we get our deer.

3 More for Team 6. Brings my season total to 17. Super active in the squirrel woods today. If I'd not had an appointment, I'm pretty sure I could've limited out. Regardless, The CZ was awesome again as I pounded one out at 72 yards. Pretty sure that's my farthest shot on a squirrel ever! All Head/neck shots! Count the tails! Not the heads! At around 20 yards, one of the CCI .22WMR HP+V's literally blew the head off!

I don't know how you do it omega! But, yer pretty awesome to limit out as much as you do! I know where there are some pretty good spots and I pretty much make it a rule to hunt each spot only one time per season unless I see over 2x the limit when I am there. Then I will hit it a second time. Overpopulated can be as bad as hunting a spot dry if there is not enough food for em.

Add 4 more to team 1. One yesterday and three today.
Gotta finish up a large sinker pour Saturday morning so it will be a late start for me. I can always hope it is raining.

I will finally be back in the deer blind on Saturday!! My daughter has decided to give it a go again after a 3 year hiatus. A friend of hers at school actually talked her into going again. Hope we see one, but the forecast is for high temps and the corn has yet to be picked. Hope you find a place Saturday to hunt that is not occupied by youth deer hunters! That is why I always kept one private property spot in my back pocket to hunt on youth Saturday.

Finally back on the board, one more for team 7. Cooked him up before I thought to get a picture. My first trip to Hoosier National Forest. Backpacked in with the intent of having a morning hunt, setting up camp, and an evening hunt, and having another morning hunt tomorrow. My scope must have been knocked out of alignment because I only hit one inside 20 yards and it wasn't a very clean shot. Missed a couple perfect opportunities a little farther out, decided I couldn't keep on and hiked back out :/ Had some of the best shot opportunities too. But lots of activity and beautiful there. Need a return trip. Edit: forgot I did get a pic

Rain was horrible today. Managed to sneak a peak this afternoon around 330 for about a half an hour. Seen one real tiny fox. He needs to grow a bit more.

Put a three spot down for team one. Should've limited but fate was on the side of the squirrels this morning.
