Sitting on the screened back porch for a moment, and can hear the locusts...now I KNOW it's getting close to hunting season.

Been a good late summer so far. Timely soaking rains have all food plots, fields and mast trees looking great. Seeing lots and lots of deer and good bucks as well. Got bow out as well and will start shooting a few arrows weekly. Season will be here before you know it.

You hearing locusts or cicadas? Locusts I think...? Locusts are actually a type of grasshopper, where the noisy creatures that fly around, shed their shell, and make the loud noises are cicadas.

I'm headed out for my final season prep. I left on tree stand untrimmed last time and I decided that I better go clean it up at least a little. It's a good stand, just hard to hunt. I may move a couple of cameras too.

Well, I'm not sure what else I can really do to get ready. Maybe fire up the weed eater to make easier to slip in and out of the meadows but, I don't think I'll do that. I'm pretty content on what I've gotten done.
A friend of mine gave me a "Buck Stick". It's a fake little tree that comes with a few different gland scents. It didn't cost me anything so I put it out in front of one of my cameras.

I was going to put some burlap up on some of my stands today for a little more concealment. Felt the humidity and decided it could wait. Next week looks pretty good, at least for now.

We just put out our fall plot. Pretty muddy tilling. It took the man that tills for me twice as much time as normal. No way that we could drag it as the ground is pretty muddy and lots of chunks. We spread the seed and that is it. Hoping for the best. Big heavy rain is coming this afternoon so that will drive a lot of the seed into the ground. I put my Tactacam Reveal Camera on it so I can sit home and watch the plot grow. .

I'm with you on the humidity and heat. I prefer for a cooler light rain day or just before the rain. I try not to leave any scent placing stands etc. I have one more stand, seats, and life lines. I'm not a clearer. The thicker the better. Just enough cleared around me. Not much trail clearing. Only a few little branches to clear arrow lanes. I don't touch the 1st 5-7 feet from the ground.

Got out before rain hit and put nitrogen on all my turnip plots. Pretty well done. Need to inspect stand and straps yet.

Still have a few stands to get placed and clear some shooting lanes, I will fertilize the food plots if we ever get any rain. What little bit we got today kept the dust down for about 15 minutes, and now it looks like the line of storms to the North of us will not get us either before it moves East.
HA! Just as I typed the last like a heavy downpour hit the house and it quit as soon as it started. I hurried up and looked on radar, nothing is showing up on it for here. Go figure.

We got about a 1" with more forecasted for Tues. Then a 5 day dry spell. Was dry in July but been lucky in Aug. Hope you get some. Nothing worse than doing all the work on plots and get no rain..

Stopped by the home of my wife's cousin and his family, who we're pretty close with(they actually introduced me to my wife). They have a 14 year old son who's been squirrel hunting a few times and wants to try deer hunting. I talked to the dad first to get the go ahead, then asked the kid if he wanted to go this year. He seemed pretty excited.
He's got several rifles and does a lot of shooting, so we should be good in that department. Just nobody to take him out hunting, the dad doesn't really have any interest.
The plan is to go out youth weekend, then again throughout firearms season if he wants to.

Inspected clover plots and decided to mow. Headed out and some weeds so just went ahead and mowed them all.
