This has been my primary winter / spring project. Started looking like this: ![](https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240527/50e67b830187d9337112593a8ebd3011.jpg) More or less finished up, looks like this: ![](https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240527/75e8d3df971c9619c705abdc7b9a5922.jpg) ![](https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240527/6f5eba08da0ebfd5072b37ce03667b2d.jpg) Did it all by hand, with an electric chainsaw and a pair of loppers, followed by the trusty old riding mower. Best I can figure, using map-acre calculating websites as well as walking it off, is right at 1/2 acre. I intend to put this into prennial clover this fall, but put sorghum in a couple days ago for an experiment. I have a trail cut in and out, if they use that then they’ll pass right past the tree I intend to hang a stand in. Seen lots of sorghum Planted but never seen anything but a few birds eat it….Never understood the reason. They love it out in western Kansas. Not as much plant diversity out there though like we have here.

Not as much plant diversity out there though like we have here. I've planted sorghum in Kentucky and the deer love it when the seed heads sweeten up. If I remember correctly, there was around a 2 week period in late September/early October when this would happen. Every deer around seemed to be eating in those fields non-stop at dusk and dawn. Outside of that two weeks, they had no draw to it. They wiped my 1 acre of it out within that two weeks, so maybe a larger field of it would attract them longer.

Cut hay for 8 hours yesterday and had my 1st FAWN RESCUE of season. (Little doe fawn maybe 2-3 days old). Enjoying nap about 10' from woods edge. She could get up but couldn't walk very good yet, I carried her her into woods a few feet and found her a new comfy spot where momma could find her. Only fawn siting so far, but it's time they should be dropping.

Heading home yesterday evening with my dad and brothers from a 4-H event and out in a field there were two deer. They were at a distance but one looked like a big doe about ready to fawn.

The last few years, I’ve really gotten into mineral sites on one of my properties and have seen a huge difference in the amount of deer on the property and the quality of the deer on the property. I obviously cant attribute it for sure to the mineral sites, but they can’t hurt, right? Lol Anyway, started one in a new spot this year. These pics are from April 27. These two gents were frequenting the site about every 2 days. I think these are going to be a couple of hammers. I haven’t gotten any pictures since because my camera died. Hoping to get back out in the next few days to get camera back going again. ![](https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240530/d50f2d5413e69f3428a5cc763fd4cc57.jpg) ![](https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240530/8d12164f2a3faf533e1da348fabb14cd.jpg) ![](https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240530/bee1dfec3063acc6760bb826055e0cb7.jpg)

2 weeks in, sorghum is about 6” tall in the middle of the new food plot. It’s pretty sparse and about half the height around the edges of the plot, which isn’t surprising due to the partial shade. Overall looks pretty good.
Clover is looking good, the Imox application 3 weeks ago killed out the Johnson grass.

![](https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240609/1f399112ca88e1fda1c8e8e267e2e4f8.jpg) Poles set, base on, ladder attached. Those poles are heavy to try and adjust in the holes, feel like I did something this weekend.

I live in Southern Indiana and things have been good (as far as rain goes) this year, but the next 10 days are supposed to be in the high 80's to mid 90's with only about a .10 of an inch of rain during that period.
If that happens, it can easily throw the area into a low level drought.

Unfortunately, it seems to be a normal cycle when we get a wetter spring like we did.

Everybody is looking good with your posts and workings...Guess I need to rent out the guy down the road to hit the landings and logging roads, they are growing up pretty good. The plots look decent, but haven't seen any deer on camera in them eating anything. Just spread some shelf bags of seed mixture. My fall is looking pretty busy, only week I have to get back home is the 3rd week of August currently, busy with work, may have a trip planned that week as well if it's approved. May just have to come in for a weekend if possible or the 1st week of September, may try last week of July. We will see how things work out. Keep it up gents, looks like a good season coming up...SF Woody ![](https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240614/775a62ccd96548dd970c3cbff507cc5d.jpg) ![](https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240614/3039d7abd59cd50b5b58346a764b60fc.jpg)

Friend and I got out this afternoon and took down his tower box blind and took it to my permission piece and set it back out.
The owner of the property he hunts called him this morning and asked him to remove it today as "It doesn't look natural". He's okay with the deer stands but, decided he didn't like the box blind after it had been up for two years. His property, his rules I suppose.

Sorghum is looking pretty good. It’s really thin around the shady edges of the plot, but the full sun portion is coming along nicely. ![](https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240624/c44963eb523a517d56ca15a76f33e76f.jpg)

Looks like a big rain coming. I went out and put some urea on the sorghum just now.
