Weekend update - My cousin got to Missouri late Thursday night and set up fpor a Friday morning hunt to see what was around. He got 3 and saw thousands, so said lets stay there. Saturday morning we got 1 and had lots of birds working the decoys but wouldnt commit. Same thing saturday night. Spirits were down a bit heading into Sunday. Got a single early Sunday morning, then a group of 2 came in a bit later. 15+ shots later and we got 1 lol. A little after 9 we were talking about packing up and then a big flock of snows came up on the horizon way out. Said lets work these then call it a day. I had a 7 hour drive home and they were going to move up to Iowa. The group worked and 3 broke of and came committed in. We concluded it was 21 shots later that we got all 3. Was a great trip, we would have loved to get more birds, but we saw great numbers. Sounds like a fun time. Heck it’s just nice pulling the trigger on something in March. About the time you think the season can’t get any tougher it does. Thanks for sharing. Last year they shot over 2000 snows. This year they are struggling to get 200. It sounds like it has been a very tough year.

Lack of young birds made it tough

We had a year when we hit the lead edge of birds and spent three days battling adults...humbling to say the least. Was something to see the show but very tough hunting. Killed pairs and singles. Only had one good tornado come down on us that trip....made it worth the trip.

It only takes a group to make a whole season for me. The frustration is real but the satisfaction of the perfect decoying bird or group is all it takes to make the day.
3 yrs ago we were scratching singles and pairs. With 8 guns...not very fun. Then late morning the show started. First 4 hrs we had 7 birds. Last 4 hrs added 40. Every group of birds we saw worked like they show on TV! That alone has me hooked on snows. Been on 4 other hunts that resulted in much less spectacular results but still look forward to the next big day!

Isn’t it something how those days when they do it right get burned in your head and memory bank....just love it. I recall one afternoon after setting up for the majority of the day, we could barely get into the blinds as they were coming in on us. I remember thinking to myself.....this is really happening. Lol. Good times! If nothing else, reading the reports here and hearing of other hunts helps to passify me some!

We made it to SD on Thursday and we were heading home Sat morning as all the snows had gone thru already and just were Sandhill cranes flying over. The cranes follow the snows so when you see flock after flock of them you missed the snows. We got 4 shots at one pair that were a little high but that was it. Outfitter called the guys after us and told them to stay home. On the bright side we do get a free hunt next year in one of the states he hunts snows in. Think will will go to Arkansas in January next year.
