I have a little wood stacked on the back porch. Will go fill the wagon here shortly. Wagon holds 4 to 5 days of wood. Got food and not going out. I just retired in Nov from a job working a trucking dock that has NO HEAT. Start time was 3 AM. I think I picked a good year to retire. I am not looking forward to this cold but am ready. The dog and I will keep each other company.
Good luck to all and be safe!

I filled up the truck and tractor with diesel that I added extra anti-Gel additives to.
I thought about using the insert, but decided on NOT using the insert, just the natural gas forced air furnace in the house. Ya see, the water pipes run in the unheated crawlspace, and the furnace is a counterflow unit, with the heating ducts in the crawlspace. Hopefully by using the furnace and trickling water I won't have frozen pipes to deal with.
I usually use the insert to heat the house in the winter, and only use the furnace when I'm not home to feed the insert.

Ready at home and the garage. Wood shed loaded, freezers, fridge, cupboards full. Bring it on!
Have gotten hit with snow after snow after snow in LaPorte county. Been putting the new plow to work.
Only thing that will suck for me is having to work in it. I work in a diesel garage on semi's. Just found out our 2 biggest customers are closing Wed and Thurs. That should help us tremendously. Hope we can keep emergency road calls to a minimum in this brutal time. The Carhartts will be put to the test!

Sunday afternoon I built an additional wood box to go next to the fireplace and filled it up. I'm going to put Seafoam in my vehicles and let them run 15 minutes or so when I get off duty this evening.
Government offices (aside from law enforcement and paramedics) are already closed for Wednesday and Thursday. Some of our other local businesses are closing as well.
I hope everyone stays safe and warm the next few days. Don't venture out if you don't have to.

Single digits & lower, I leave lower cabinets open and a trickle of water. Higher water bill is still a lot cheaper than busted pipes. Oh, and I love my electric blanket!!

Extra hay in the horse feeders, water tank heaters are plugged in, plenty of food in the house and wood for the stove. Will be at work by 530 everyday in a basically unheated shop. Just another day.

I just got a new pair of Carhartts, arctic quilt lined ones.
I hope to not have to use them.
I have submitted my tentative sick day notification to my boss in case my kids' school is closed or delayed. And I still hope to not have to use the new Carhartts.

I came up with an idea to help heat the house. I have a gas stove and noticed that every time we run the oven it warms the house so I got out a whole deer ham to bake tomarrow. i will put oven on 225 and slow bake to tenderize and heat house. I will get 100% of the heat generated in to the house as apposed to 80% from furnace and a very tastey dinner. I posted this so some one else might be able to use the idea.

School closed for tomorrow. I'm working but I'll be riding the desk, no hardship there. House always stays warm, the electric bill just goes higher.

Baking chicken right now. nfalls116, you mean that if I leave the oven door closed the heat will go somewhere else? But no it will just be less efficient at entering the house if it has to go through all the insulation first.

Just heard that the Post Office won't be delivering the mail, nor will the local newspapers be delivered. So much for the Postal creed.....

Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds. While the Postal Service has no official motto, the popular belief that it does is a tribute to America's postal workers.
It doesn't say anything about cold.

A balmy 7 here in quaint little Newburgh. A bit breezy. It will go to 4 shortly with a high of 9 today.
Fireplace insert did not quite keep up. The furnace is running now too.
